I know everyone wants to know which camera to get but....

With £500 to spend I'm not sure if is better to buy an entry level DSLR probably Nikon D5000 or Canon 500D or would I be better of going for a bridge camera and having s much wider choice?

Go to a shop and try both out, then pick the one which feels best in your hands.

They'll both produce excellent pictures, far better than a bridge camera.

Agree with above  But definately get a DSLR rather than a bridge, its only something you would have to do in the future.

Seconded
Get your mitts on some and buy the one that is most comfortable for you, plenty around at that price and if you go secondhand you get more bang for your buckThe sale forums on here will give you some idea as to what you could get:thumbs:

Skip the bridge, you will only want a DSLR after a few months of usuing it and finding its limits.

£500 can get you loads. Think what features, you will actually use like Hd video etc. A 2nd hand D40x or D50 is cheap as chips now!!

For £500 you can buy a secondhand Nikon D90. Which I think still is a very good value for money.

For £500 & £20 post you can have a brand new Nikon D90.... Nikon D90

I've used these before with no probs what so ever - they are UK models before anyone asks....

A D300s is what I got from them... That was complete with everything all NEW!! & next day delivery - but be quick as these dont keep stock for that long... They have 5 in stock at the mo..
