Hi all!

Sorry if this has been done to death, tried searching but couldn't come up with much, maybe this question is too basic? :) Am looking for an Slr camera to start off with, think I would like something that can have an automatic option that I can learn and grow with manually, have been looking at the Nikon d3000, but wonder if this is my best bet?
Budget around £350 mark.
Any advice, including if second hand a better option (noticed mixed answers on thread above) very welcome
thanking you

At the end of the day the best advice is to handle some cameras ,narrow it down to the make you like and feels good in you're hand, then choose a model in that range (with advice on here.)

I went out to buy a Canon 350d and ended up buying a Nikon d80 because I liked the feel better.:D

you'll probably want to buy more stuff once you've got the body so bear that in mind before u spend all your dosh

I'm currently on the same journey, looking to buy my first dSLR in a few months time.

It might be worth having a look here

I went and had a look at cameras today, I was quite impressed with the D3000, it felt better in my hand then the Canons. Of course being a good salesman the guy in Jessops quite quickly took it off me and bunged something over twice the price in my mits (while mentioning that they do 0% finance).

I also tried an Olympus which within being in my hand for a second was handed back to the sales man, didn't feel right at all to me.

Don't dismiss second hand if you're a beginner. I've got a Nikon D40x that came with an 8gb card and remote / bag AND a Nikkor 55-200mm lens for under £300.

:)

thanks everyone. Funny but without reading some of these later posts I went and had a feel of the D3000 at the weekend too, it felt right. So am really thinking about it - if I can find a good price.
You know as soon as I do buy one I will be on here asking more questions don't you!

Coming to this post my intention was unfulfilled....because I thought that her I would get some good information which would help me in taking my decision for purchasing a high configuration camera....
