Which camera, Canon 450D or Nikon 5000D?

Hi!

I'm looking to buy my first DSLR, and I've whittled it down to two that I like. I just need some advice of which would be better for me.

I'm looking for something suitable for a beginner, but then as I grow and get better at photography the camera will grow with me and I won't have to upgrade it for a while because it will still fit my needs as a more experienced amature.

I'm looking at the Nikon 5000d or the Canon 450D. What do you think?

Well the Nikon D5000 does video (although not HD) and has a tilting screen which the 450D doesn't. It has 11 focus points compared to the 450Ds 9.

Googling 'nikon d5000' actually compares it more to the Canon 500D, which is a higher model than the 450D.

I got my 450D and the lens for £400 which was quite a good deal, otherwise I was considering other cameras
 
Are you looking to buy a brand new camera or a second hand one? If you are looking for new then maybe you should consider what you could buy second hand within the same budget.

Either the 450D or the D5000 would be suitable for a beginner and would do you for at least a couple of year while you learn the basics and beyond but if you really want something to last then looking for a slightly better model like a 50D or D300 second hand might be an option.

It's all down to personal taste, affordability and how important your photography is to you.
