Hello everyone,

Wanted to seek advice here as to which brand of filter to buy (95mm)? Hoya? Tiffen? Additionally, a bit confused between Pro1, Ultra-Pro.

Any help in finding the right filter is much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I am one of those people who doesn't use filters,so I can't advise on which ones to buy, but if you do then buy the best Quality you can find.

Always like to put a UV or Skylight filter on a lens - its less expensive to replace if anything catches the glass. I bought completely in the dark (excuse the horrible pun) for my Tamron 150-600mm G2. Got a Camdiox 95mm CPRO Ultra Slim Multi-coated UV filter from eBay. Been very satisfied with its performance - doesn't appear to have any impact on colour or efficiency of the lens. It is also very reasonably priced when compared to many others. Have a look at these pictures taken using the lens with that filter:

Hope this may help you.

I think the same but have yet to put a filter on my latest camera lenses. Sitting there thinking about scratches, I have yet to scratch the lens of a mobile phone camera despite it sitting in pockets with grit etc In all the years I have had binoculars and compact/superzoom cameras ive never scratched a lens. I do wonder how often it actually occurs, and then I start to wonder if i should have a protector on my watch face or car windscreen........

From what i have read online, the longer the focal lenght the more the filter has an effect on the quality. On a 600mm it is advised to not put a filter. Then i haven't run test myself just what i have read online. To be fair I do not use filter on any of my shorter lenght either.

I am generally the one advocating for UV / protective filters... but only on far shorter lenses that don't have big lens hood. Anything up 150-200mm you can get away with top quality filter.

There is no chance you can attach ANYTHING to 400mm, let alone 600mm and not notice a huge drop in image quality.

Therefore most certainly save your money for something else.
