Which batteries are you using for Flashguns?

I have always used eneloops but recently especially now I am using Canon 580EX II flashgun the recycle time seems to be very slow... I think at one stage I had to wait atleast couple of minutes before the flash was ready to fire...

Possibly looking at replacing now with Uniross 2700mAh AA just wonder what everyone else was using
 
quantum turbo.. thousands of flash hardly any recycle time :)
 
How are you shooting? Are the flashes set to manual or the Canon version of iTTL? If the latter your recycle times could be higher than you expect because the speedlite is having to fully charge before each flash, just in case you need full power.

I shoot Eneloops with my Nikon Speedlights and find that recycle times are much longer with iTTL.
 
2900 mah from 7day shop in a Nikon power pack.
 
Usually use the flash in E-TTL mode, will take a look at the quantum turbos :)
 
If I could sell my Sony lenses I might actually invest in something like that... but realistically might just have to go for the Uniross @ £8.99 for 4pack lol
 
I know you will laugh but at a family wedding a few months ago took about 400 shots the majority with either fill or full flash and the batteries from the pound shop never missed a beat
 
Nope. I used them until I bought a set of Calumet rechargables. They're more than capable.
 
Another Quantum turbo user here - I use the 2+2

One of the best bits of kit I've bought. Expensive, yes, but I've never even come close to draining the pack despite shooting thousands of images over a weekend.

It's Rolls Royce kit, but worth every penny IMHO.
 
A Quantum maybe the dogs danglies, but for normal folk whats wrong with a Canon power pack CP-E4 or one of the drit cheap clones, that you can get, I think the last one I got was about £20. Works just like a canon and make re-cycling very quick.
 
Sanyo eneloops... simply the best.... and don't discharge in cold weather
 
Im actually really considering the GODOX PB820 now, I have 24 eneloops and dont know if iv just been charging them wrong or they not enough power but for the way I use the flash the recycle time isnt fast enough anymore...

Be interested to see how this product goes....Since Tony (Kipax) mentioned it,I've been searching the net for some independant reviews...I'm still looking.

Excellent - they look fantastic value for money compared with Nikons offering.. now there's a surprise ! From what I've read they work very well.

I've successfully lit a 6x7 Hilite with 2 SB800s. You need to place them carefully but it does work.
 
I have three of the cheap yongnuo 8 cell packs, and they work perfectly on a 580exII (and my 580ex, 430ez and 540ez and the newer yong 565) in the two or more years I have been using them. I broke a battery door off one, but that was my fault and it still works fine.

The only bear is charging up all those AA cells (mostly Eneloops), so three 6 cell ansmann chargers help.

Next step up would be single larger cell like the Quantum or Godox pack for easier charging etc.

Eff me, Elemental are coining it - 180 quid and they even charge 20 squids for the cable on top, while Deal Extreme is 70 quid, cable inc and free delivery.

The 580EX II has rapid fire I believe which will allow it to fire before it has fully recharged providing you don't require full power for the shot.

I use Panasonic Infinium batteries. One thing to remember though when using rechargeable batteries is that you need a good charger.
 
I use the cheap clones of the Canon battery pack and they work very well indeed, I would say pay just that little more for the Yongnuo one over the very low cost ones like Shoot.

They all look identical ( I bet they all come from the same factory) but my Shoot one the door is just that bit harder to close and the Velcro on the case it not in perfect alingment, it just is not right up there on the quality control. Mind you it was less than £18 and functions perfectly with both my EX 580 II and YN 560
 
best batteries i have found are the Tescos Extra Long life, cheap and produce good recycle times and seem to outlast duracell, i have shot a full days wedding with these only having to change them once :)
 
I stick with 2900 from 7day shop. I carry quite a few as not only do they power all my speedlights but they are the same batteries I need for my trigger and receivers. Having them all use the same keeps things a lot simpler.

Don't forget though that a good battery is only half the story. You also need a good charger. You want one that will charge each battery individually and will also condition the batteries.

I'd have a quantum but can't afford it
best I can do is AA 3800mAh batteries...they're great (and a cheap battery pack for my 580exii for events) also enelopp 2000mAh ones
