I'm having a bit of a wholesale equipment upgrade over the winter, and part of that is buying a proper bag capable of carrying all my gear. Does anybody have any recommendations for a decent backpack type bag for carrying the following:

Canon EOS 400D plus grip
Sigma 120-400mm f4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM lens
Canon 50mm f1.8 II lens
Memory cards etc.

Plus another couple of lenses I may buy in the next year or two, such as a 70-200mm f4 L and another smaller zoom. Weatherproofing would be a bonus as I shoot mainly motorsport, and the weather can be a little less than ideal sometimes. I'm guessing the limiting factor here is going to be the size of the Sigma zoom lens.

Check out the Lowepro Flipside 400AW, I just got one and it's great:

Weatherproofed
Small enough to count as Airplane Hand Luggage
Large enough to hold a D300 with Sigma 150-500 attached plus 6 other lenses. (BIG Lens)
Great build quality.

Sounds like the fstop Tilopa is what you need...

Have a look at the Lowepro Vertex range. Excellent bags. The 200 will do you and should have enough room to grow into.

Chris :)

i just got the dakine mission and i love it to bits. sooooo comfy

I searched long and hard for a suitable photo backpack. In the end I bought a Dakine sequence, which I am very pleased with.

For outdoors countyside / beach walks I take the Dakine. For familly outings I still use my Loewpro orion trekker.

I use a computrekker

Holds:

Gripped 50D with Sigma 100-300 AF with x1.4 TC attached
Canon 24-105L
Canon 50mm 1.8
Sigma flash
room for another lens
plus other odds and ends

Plus I can put my macbook or something lapstop shaped into the laptop pocket
