I have recently sold my Slingshot 300AW as the upper section was too small. Previous to that I had a Lowepro Orion Trekker which had a great upper section but the base was too small.

The camera compartment needs to hold my gripped 450D, 70-200f4 L, 17-85, 50mm, my Panasonic HD5, a few batteries and cards etc.

So, ideally, I'd like the camera compartment from the Slingshot with the upper section of the Trekker! Oh, and I want a backpack.

Having looked around I have identified several bags that seem suitable although without seeing them it is difficult to judge.

I was wondering if anyone has or has had any of the following and would be able to confirm if the upper section is a similar size to the Trekker?

I have had both Lowepro and Tamrac in the past but not Kata - how do they measure up?

Lowepro Flipside 400
Kata 3N1-30
Lowepro Primus
Tamrac Aero Speed 75
Tamrac Evolution 6
Kata 123-GO-30

Any feedback would be great, thanks.

Nige

I've got the Kata 3N1-30 - holds all my gear plus accessories... Did have have a slingshot 300 but wouldn't hold my gear so sold it the day after buying it & so getting the Kata..... Have had a few bags in my time ranging from Lowepro AW mini trekker, Tamrac pros (right up to the 12 which was massive) then decided on the Kata as it was a 3 in 1 camera bag...

It holds whats below with ample more room for more gear if I ever decide to get anymore....

I am currently using a fastpack 350. It can definitely fit all your equipment. It is very comfortable too. :)

Thanks guys,

How did you find the upper compartments on your 350 and 3N1?

Flipside 400 is very good, bought mine to replace the 300 which also lacked a compartment for stuff like lunch along with other bits and pieces.

Jessops were doing a good price on the green one especially using the bags&cases10 code to get an extra 10% off

What kind of stuff did you manage to get into the top compartment?

Need to carry a diabetes kitbag, drinks, childs fleece etc.....is it that big?

Not sure what's in a diabetes kitbag, but I carry a small first aid kit along with my lunch and some other bits and pieces. like glasses. Drinks go in the two bottle holder pockets on either side and my waterproof goes over the top of the bag held in place with the straps that are provided for that very purpose

Hi Nigel

+1 for the 350, its a great bag with a huge lower compartment for all your gear and even a slip in the back for a 17" laptop. As for the top compartment its a decent size with also at least one drink holder on the side.

Probably best to visit somewhere like Jessops just to get an idea of the size.

Yikes, if you need to carry that amount, would it not be better to have 2 bags.

Maybe a waist bag or cross shoulders?

All I would say is that bags are personal and your really have to try them, preferably with all your kit actually in it.

That's not an unusual outfit and there must be a hundred bags that would physically contain it.
