I have a iMac 4gb 2010 iMac which I love, and a 1st gen iPad which again is very useful. I'm considering printing on site so would need a laptop, and am thinking if I bought a macbook then through iCloud the imac and laptop would talk to eachother with the photos making switching between laptop at shows and imac at home easy.

So I need a macbook, not sure whether to go for the Air as I already have a cd drive at home on the desktop mac, or Pro and have the disc drive. Opinions?

Personally I'd want a laptop I wouldn't mind getting potentially used and abused for on site printing.

I'd consider a small portable desktop with a calibrated display so that customers don't do the old "this print doesn't look the same as on the screen" (also a possible issue with glossy screens).

Should have said I'd have my brother operating the mac and opening photos as and when people wanted to view them... I can see what you mean with the glossy screen but I honestly won't go back to a pc now, as far as I can see they are a waste of money and in 2 years are out dated, slow, susceptible to virus so it has to be a Mac.

you know its the same underlying hardware and macs also get malware dont you? ;)

anyway, laptop screens can be hard to calibrate and viewing angles will effect the image. id still get a screen whatever computer you choose. just seems pointless spending £1000 on a mac laptop when a cheap PC and a £170 IPS screen will more than do the job.

If you have power near by , i would suggest picking up a mac mini and a monitor. If buying a laptop, i would wait a couple of weeks as there should be a new updated macbooks with the new ivy chips.
