My current anti-virus software (Norton Internet Security) is running out in a couple of weeks and I thought I'd take this opportunity to maybe make a change to a different software.

It's ages since I knew which was the best of anything in computers so can anyone recommend a good, reliable anti-virus software that won't slow the computer down too much? It's for the laptop that doesn't get used much anymore due to iPad and mobiles for internet brousing. It mostly gets used for photo editing and some work stuff so if the software is cheap then that would be a bonus too.

What's good that's out there?

Thanks

Free version is fine in my opinio. Run it on all our home machines and never had an infection

Avast Pro here (paid for)

Although in my paranoia I also run

MSE
Malwarebytes (paid for)
Spybot-S&D blaster (free)
Spyware Blaster (free)
Cryptoprevent (free)

In fact its a wonder the machine still runs at all :)

Avast again, 150 million users can't be wrong. Probably more now, that figure was two years ago.

Avast free here on all machines. Pretty sure they're all hygienic but how can one really be sure? Run a scan? If the AV missed the infection, will it pick it up later?

AVG 2014. Free . Ok on Windows 8.1 and upgrades.. Would not be without protection...

I just run MSE and have done for several years now. Low on system resources and seems to do the job.

MSE got a slating recently for its poor detection rates, even MS dont rate it.

anti-virus may be dying, but anti-malware is very much needed.

and nobody should be running multiple scanners, they trip over each other causing malicious content to be missed.
