Which 85mm Canon lens

I was thinking of getting the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM at £1269. But spotted the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM at £259 is there i big difference in the image quality of these two primes. I know the one at £1269 is faster but i can live with the £259 lens if the image quality is good.
 
The 85mm f1.8 comes highly recommended for the price, I was thinking about one a little while ago and did a few searches on the net and found some very pleasing images taken with it, I deciced that as I already had the 100mm macro the focal lengths were probably too close for me.
 
I had one (F1.8) and it was sharp. Fairly obvious purple fringing wide open in high contrast shots with mine though.

Wrong way round mate, The 1.8 is faster than the 1.2 by far..;)

I had the 1.8 and the image quality is excellent but now own the 1.2L and can confirm the lens isnt 4 times the price for nothing..:woot:
Colours contrast and bokeh are what this lens is all about with a razor thin DOF..

No no no no Nooo the 1.8 is alot faster in terms of AF by a long shot.

The sheer size of the F1.2 means that there is a chunk of glass the size of a cereal bowl for the motor to move.. and it does that but at the cost of speed.
 
Yeah... but that bokeh on the 1.2 :love:

Calling a lens fast doesn't mean that it focuses fast or does anything else fast...

Oh. Right..

Like calling a Ferrari fast but it doesn't go fast.:thinking:
 
I ment aperture, when you use the word faster in lens talk you mean aperture. F1.2 is faster then F1.8.
 
Thanks all anyway, i think i will go for the F1.8 lens and see how i do with that. Going to be using it for weddings, inside the church in dim light. So the faster AF of the F1.8 would be great, and then it should be fine for outside shots as well. And the good thing is it's a £1000 cheaper.

Just to clarify I was talking about AutoFocus here guy's.:p

Sorry but I thought it was obvious that 1.2 will beat 1.8 in aperture speed as there have been dozens of threads regarding the slower AF speed of the more expensive 1.2L..:thumbs:
