Which 50mm lens?

I've decided I need a 50mm prime lens and am in two/three minds as to which one to choose. After reading the various reviews I'm down to the Canon 50mm 1.2, the Canon 50mm 1.4 or the Sigma 50mm 1.4 art.
Price wise the Canon 1.4 is the most attractive but review wise the Sigma seems to be the current highest rated.

I've already got the 85mm f1.2 which I love, but the focus is very slow - not necessarily a problem, but just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Sigma and whether this focuses any quicker?

What I guess I am really after is any real world experience with the Sigma, or any compelling reason to go for the Canon 1.2 over the Canon 1.4 as there is such a price difference. My current thinking is between the Sigma and the 1.4 but interested to hear other peoples experiences. Thanks.

I went from a cheap prime to the Sig Art. It is a breathtaking lens - sharp with a stunning rendition and captures images that simply look different (in a good way) to my old 50. Having said that, it's my worst value lens... it does little that couldn't be achieved with a bit of care and some post processing but SOOC the images are stunning. It did cost me nearly £400 second hand though!

Thanks. I've been looking at more reviews today and cant find much other than praise for the sigma. I've therfore written off the 1.2 but still wondering if the canon 1.4 is better value for money, or if I'll buy it and wish I'd gone for the Sigma in the first place.

The Canon 50mm STM is a well regarded lens, and at £90 new is well worth considering.

Thanks Swissy - I did have one when I started digital photography and agree in terms of value for money it's possibly Canons best lens (sure that coul start an argument)! But I'm after something more professional to last into the future. I think Ive decided on the Sigma.

Don't mistake the 50mm STM with the older 50mm Nifty fifty.

I was indeed, it was the nifty I had. Is the STM simply the mk2 of that, or something more?

If weight is no problem and you don't have an overwhelming desire/need for the f1.2 then the sigma is the lens to get the canon 1.4 is nowhere near the other lenses!

The 1.8 STM is a great option reviews have it out performing the old nifty optically and it fixed the two major complaints about the nifty ie build quality and af.

I keep thinking I should get a fifty again and the STM would get my money only because if I'm choosing primes I don't want giant ones so no sigma arts for me yet!

I dont mind the weight and I'd probably have gone for the 1.2 if I didnt already have the 85mm. Ordered the sigma earlier this evening.
