I am just about to buy a battery grip for my 450D and was wondering if anyone had used any third party grips and how well do they work? I have only ever used a Canon battery grip on a 400D and was thinking about the Canon one again but the others are more or less half price so thought i would ask peoples opinions.

Well when i had my 450D I bought one off Ebay from Hong Kong, had no problems with it whatsoever and they even threw in a remote which worked a treat as well :D

I use the Opteka model.
Comes with 2 free batteries too :D

Comfortable, solid and works.

I looked at that one too but i was wondering why the canon 400d battery grip wont fit the 450d when this one does. Is it just a case of canon making more money or is theirs specifically aimed at a certain camera in which case you would imagine there would be less chance of things going wrong communication wise. Hope that makes sense.

...........and I bought my Canon grip from chilliz for my 450D - very pleased with it :)

Phottix from Hong Kong feels and works fine on my 350d

I have the Canon grip. Remember when you come to sell the canon will hold its value better than a third party grip.

I brought a 'Travor' grip with 2 batteries for £43 posted from ebay and its great. Feels the same my mades Canon grip on his 400d.
