Yes
I have around £500 to spend on one but there are so many to look at and im a bit at a loss as to what to go for other than ips is the way to go.

Thanks

Rob.

Thanks Neil
it does look good and im close to getting it. I also came across this one about the same price but it has a glossy screen so not sure about that regarding reflections Prolite XB2779QS

Rob.

yes the prolite has more of a shine to the screen than the dell .

Having had a read I think the Dell is the one for me.

Thanks

Rob.

I too been looking at the u2713h as well but seen online there are different revision models starting at A00 to A06 problems have been with the USB 3 and also the card reader not working as they should
I've also looked at the
LG 27ea83-d it's a minefield out there

WELL I went back and forth with this to the point it was driving me mad so I left it for a couple of days then had another look .

After reading yet more reviews I have gone for the Asus HDMI 27" and I am very happy with it, cost was around £460 and I think that's a fair price as I find it to be as good as I had hoped for.

Same here was going to leave it for awhile and read more but when I do that seam to get more confused so going to go to CCL and have a look at what they have on display
I want 2560x1440 res looked at a mates 27" apple I-mac
So going there can hopefully see something in the flesh will help me make my mind up

what about the new 4k monitors dell has a 28" for £500+

If they weren't TN type, it would be a steal. I was quite enthusiastic about 4k tech a few months ago, but realised it makes sense waiting a bit longer for now (if you can)

The dell is in a different league to the Cinema Display side by side (first thing i did when we got our first u2713h in at work).

Avoid the thunderbolt displays too, riddled with issues like flicking displays and rear port failures (that's the reason we switched, we've had too many faults with ours).

If you do buy a dell, clarify with the seller which revision number you are getting. You do NOT want an early revision ultrasharp, Dell have got into the habit of releasing unfinished, buggy products. I was lucky my U3014 was an A03, but even now the card reader is flaky....don't have the time or inclination to send it back though.

Yes this is what put me of getting a Dell it seemed hit and miss as to if you got a good one .

I will second that. Never ever buy 00 or 01 rev Dell.

Disagree completely. :)

e: matte Cinema Display? The old square bezel? Not an ips panel those aren't they?

The old 30" was non-glossy and it was an IPS. We are going back many years though. They are still quite expensive and could fail any day... that's the only but very big drawback. Maybe if you get one at bargain prices it is definitely worth a go.

on the other hand, a lot of people use them with no problems. same as anything, always the bad experience that gets shouted about online.

They wouldn't release later revisions if the early ones weren't crap. It's not just a few people either.

Before buying a Dell, check online for the revision number that has fixed most of the problems, and make sure that is the one you are getting.

well yes and no. however it could be something as simple as not being able to source a specific component and having to swap it in the manufacturing process. this would give the model a new revision.

In the case of Dell Ultrasharps, it's because the early revisions aren't QC'ed properly.

Good monitors, but buyer beware. Check the revision.

Very close to buying a dell u2713hm from Amazon. Can I assume this will be sent, directly from Dell, which should be the latest revision?

Official source please.

Nope could be fulfilled by amazon warehouse or 3rd party depending. Only way to guarantee that is to order from dell.

Seems Viking ship direct from supplier, so this would mean Dell, which begs the question why they're selling it cheaper than the Dell website o_O

because theyll be getting it at trade and adding whatever margin they are comfortable with. whereas dell will mostly be selling at rrp with the occasional special offer.

same way most other things are cheaper from a 3rd party than direct.

Would have been nice, to buy from Dell direct, but not at the price they're currently charging!

Have emailled Viking and asked if they are sourcing direct from Dell and also asked about revision number.

Also try PCBuyIT. They were the cheapest for Dell monitors last time I looked :)

You expect me to get a written statement from Dell stating that the QC on their monitors is crap? The internet is littered with reviews stating the issues with early revisions...go look for yourself if you want evidence.

so theres no hard proof that the revisions were due to issues rather than different internal parts?

so youd agree that you cannot categorically state as you did previously that new revisions were due to them being "crap".

i may be being pedantic but stating that as fact is misleading.

Well I`ve just got off e-bay a 4 month old dell u2713hm at a bargain price with the money saved over buying new I may buy a monitor calibration tool so it`s set-up correct

Dell are never going to issue a press release stating there is an issue with Rev A01 and A02, or they'd have to do a complete recall.

Do a little research yourself and decide if there are issues with early revision U3014s.

I appreciate you like and recommend Dell monitors...I do to, but with the caveat DO NOT GET AN EARLY REVISION!
