I am sorry i have posted this here but it seems i do not have enough posts or i have not been a member for long enough to post in the wanted section.

Where is the best place to buy Photoshop CS4. I have looked on Ebay and google but the prices are like really expensive.

many thanks

Stew

I notice that on Ebay that there is a CS4 Student version, does anyone know what the difference is, price wise it is a lot different.

Stew

You will need to prove you are a student to Adobe- before you get your licence key etc.

The Student (S) version is 100% identical to the non-Student (NS) version. The only difference is that if you buy the (S) version, you will not get an activation code with it. For that, you will need to send proof that you're a full-time registered student in UK to Adobe, who in turn will email you the activation code.

Adobe offer (S) version of most of their famous applications; both Lightroom to CS4 are offered like this.

Why not see if anyone is selling an older version of Photoshop and is willing to transfer the license. Then you can buy the CS4 upgrade. You would be looking for CS or higher.

Cheers

Stu

Your also not supposed to use the studient version for commercial use.

Check they haven't upgraded on it already, you cant upgrade twice.

Or just use CS2 or 3 - the majority of which is identical to CS4...

Obviously it is illegal to buy or distribute hookey versions of any software, but I don't know anyone who actually paid for any version of Photoshop...I still have all my old disks kicking around somewhere...

Point her toward all the illegal copies on Ebay, get her to speak to Adobe, she sues them all, wins the case and is paid a handsome fee by Adobe and can buy you a legal copy

LOL. Love the way you think. If only life was like that. I think Carling do life like that

Stew.

PS please dont think that anything written on here will be detrimentle because of her job. She is far too busy for things like that, and it isnt her field. She deals in chemistry

It is expensive because it is a professional tool, just like a 1D/D3. Do you need all of the extra features over Elements?

FWIW I know plenty of people who pay for their software, myself included.

Quite a few of us signed up for the OU T189 course a couple of years ago
at around £150 then got CS3 extended for around £150 instead of the then
circa £750 direct from adobe under "student licence"
might be worth a thought ?

adobe are doing a promo at the moment.

buy elements then upgrade for a cracking price.

all through adobe website.

i should have added that i do intend on using it for commercial use. i was lucky enough to have a front cover shot earlier this year.

Adobe are pretty much like Apple, you will be lucky to get much of a discount anywhere. CS4 is expensive, but I make all my purchases based over 4 years, so in the scheme of things as something I use everyday it doesn't cost that much. £2 a week maybe?
Just make sure you buy it from a legitimate source and you should be OK with upgrades, using illegal software for commercial use, well insert your own words.....

I miust admit, 'Myleen gets wet' caught my attention more than the cover pic.

Sorry!

When you say cracking price do you mean :

buy elements for £56

then £477 for the upgrade to cs4 ?? or was there some other promo?? this doesnt seem to be a cracking price to me. I am fully aware it is great software and would look to upgrade if there was a good deal :)

I have Elements 6 and received an email yesterday from Adobe offering an upgrade to CS4 for £307. Anyone else had this?

Yes, An offer to upgrade to the full CS4 for £307.00 inc.VAT. Here's the link.

As much as I would like this I find it hard to justify the investment as Elements 7 does most of what I want, but many other people need the extra facilities so this could be worth looking at.

Now thats where my mother in law goes diving on her holidays!

I got the student version (CS 3) not long after it came out but didn't know about commercial restriction.:shake: I have e-mailed them regarding its possible use now my mature student learning is over and what they would want, etc. Will update if anyone interested.

You can buy the normal CS3-CS4 upgrade and it will take you from student CS3 to pro CS4 allowing commercial use. It might be best to ring Adobe about it as it's a bit of a faff with old and new serial numbers (or it was for me) but it worked in the end.

I can confirm that CS4 is now on offer at adobe for 50% discount making it £306.50 and all you need is a previous edition of elements version 4,5,6 or 7. The promotion code is 14BA. Mine arrived yesterday!!

Is that not as an upgrade to anything else? If so that is a cracking deal!

I've also been looking at this. How did the student part work? Did you have to send off proof to Adobe? Bit difficult with the OU as you dont get an ID card etc...

Actually I phoned them, ( as did a few others) they (Adobe) were extremely helpful.
All they wanted was a scanned and emailed registration document
and same for driving licence or passport just to prove my address matched.
(the address was also on the registration letter from the OU)

IIRC they then sent me an "order code" to enter into the checkout in the students section, or something like that, anyway. They explained what I had to do and it was easy so a  for Adobe customer service

Cool, thanks. Did they insist it had to be a photography related course? Mine isnt...!

That's how I did mine too. Ou course, CS3 and currently upgrading to full on CS4. Works out not a bad deal.

The full purchase price of CS4 is over £900 so the upgrade prices, although they appear expensive are a lot cheaper than just going straight to CS4.

I think that it has to be Photography ./ arty / graphics type courses
but I wouldn't swear to that
A quick call or email should confirm either way

As nice as it would be to have CS4, I still can't perceive £307 worth of benefit beyond my copy of Elements 6, particularly with freebie tools installed that add layer masks, better curves, channel mixer etc, etc.

I'm contemplating getting LR2 though for some improvements in the Raw conversion side of things that are lacking in Elements, but from a pixel level editing point of view I've yet, personally, to come up against something that I've absolutely needed a CS product to do.

However, YMMV, this is purely from an amateur perspective.
