So here's the story... Pentax being sensible in those days, nearly all my lenses have 49mm filter threads, which is great. (y) However, I've recently bought a Pentax-A 24mm f/2.8 lens, which has a 52mm thread.(n) Happily the lens came with a UV filter (and before someone asks, this is for film, so it makes some kind of sense). Since none of my other filters would fit, I bought a yellow filter off the evil bay. Definitely received it. Now I'm testing out the 24mm with some TriX, and I'd like to use the filter... Where has it gone?:runaway:

OK, it's a rhetorical question. What I really want to do is: how on earth do you keep your filters organised so you can find the appropriate filter for any particular lens?:help:

Keep them in the filter box :)

Buy a Mamiya 6
There's only 3 lenses
And they're all 58mm...:)

KISS

failing that, buy 72mm filters and a gigantic box of reduction rings, then you lose cheap rings and not expensive filters

oh wait, that doesn't address the problem of losing stuff
put the rings on a chain around your neck, you'll look boodifull with that and some pink nail varnish

..........................or wallet!

Anyone got pointers to a decent option for either?

Or on the lens.

Well that's what normally works, when I have a choice of lenses and two cameras, one colour and one mono, all the same filter thread. There'll be at least one with a UV filter and at least one with a yellow filter, and they get swapped around if I ever change lenses (which, oddly, I don't do very often once in the field). But there's only one 24mm lens, and no other lens with a 52mm filter thread. I suppose I could stack both the UV and the yellow on the lens and take one of them off when not appropriate, but that's a faff!

Definitely not keen on the last part, but the first plan is particularly smart!

Most of my lenses take the same 49mm filter; I use screw on end caps from Polysales (yes, I have had them that long!). I keep them in a pocket in my Billingham photographer's waistcoat.

I've got a selection of filter rings and none of my LF lenses have a bigger filter thread than the RB67 so I just get a step down filter for new lenses.

The usual problem with that is the filter wallet is with the other camera...

gawd......a slave to fashion you are Stephen

I think that's what happens to most filters, constantly on the move between camera bags.....made worse by the acquisition of more than one bag for the same camera.
Y'know, a lightweight kit with a few bits and bobs in it, not forgetting to put the yellow filter in, and the belt and braces bag for the same camera with the kitchen sink......but no yellow filter

My own soloution was to aquire several yellow filters and several red, green, etc,etc I hasten to add that it has taken about 50 years to arrive at a satisfactory level of stock. I found birthdays, Cristmas and wedding anniversaries a great help.......

That worked a treat with all the 49mm thread lenses... but then I bought a 52mm thread one! :(

EDIT: The chances of my ever getting a filter of any colour as a wedding anniversary present are... negative, if that's possible! ;)
