Can I just say that living in Britain today with all the bad news of aggressions and abuse which is so easy to find nowadays what a breathe of fresh air these forums are, I've been on many meets now and have found everybody that I meet from here to be 100% genuine, kind, courteous and down right friendly. What a much better world this would be if everyone took a leaf out the the TP book of behaviour. 5 gold stars to the members of TP and long live the ethos of the forums.

You saying you're too good to talk to me or something? You after a punch up, is that it?

Right.

Outside :bat:

:D

I agree. It's nice to see people get along. I think TP has certainly got past it's rough spot it had around Christmastime.

A better class of people carry cameras.

While I'm not going to disagree, there was another photography forum I used to use that was full of absolute toss pots. There was the elite clique who were reude, abusive and scathing with their crit, would do anything to rpovoke an argument, and worst of all, an admin and moderation team that let them get away with it. TP is much friendlier, and when things do go bandit at least we have a fair team of admins and moderators who'll suspend/ban if neeedd regardless of how long someone's been here, or as I saw on the other forum, how much had been donated.

So would anyone like an argument as in the classic Monty Python Argument Sketch?! Oh yes you would! What do you mean you don't want an argument?! Why you...!!!!

That's not an argument it's a contradiction

I have come across that too.
I was in a forum based in another country and made a very innocuous post about a retailer here telling me that a certain lens being discontinued. That was enough to trigger WW3.
I stopped posting, but did a bit of viewing on the sidelines. It soon became clear that there were people who had nothing constructive to contribute, but just sat lurking and looking for a chance to dive in and spout venom. Probably shaping up to become serial killers.

It's not just here. I use several t'interwebby type forumy type thingummybobs, and on the whole there are usually very nice - like minded - peeps on them. You do get the odd element just looking to cause grief, but they tend not to last too long.
There are several forums I no longer visit though, due to the kind of behaviour arclight mentions. It is a great shame, because these communities generally hold a wealth of knowledge - usually all for free too.

Im a believer that we're all selfish, violently aggressive, impulsively(sp) driven bunch, and that the only reason some of us hold back is because we are so aware that every move is being watched.

For example, today, i stayed in the shop that my car was parked outside of whilst it was being ticketed, because the bus stop that i was parked in, was full of old dears from the sheltered accomodation that my gran lives on. if it had been anywhere else, then that warden would have got a talking(read shouting) to.

my point is, i behave nicely ont tinterweb, because i have respect for the members of forums like this, as in real life, i only behave, because somebody might see and il be in the ****. at the end of the day, we only behave nicely, when we have reason to. take the roads for example, there are a hell of alot of aggressive drivers who wouldnt behave the way they do if they were face to face with the other drivers.

You've driven past Matt Sayle then? :p

I was quite sad to stop using it, but only because I'd managed to get in touch with an old friend from training through it (small world, eh?). But the BS was too much to deal with. We have harsh but fair crit here, but on this other forum the crit was more than harsh, it was rude, inconsidierate and downright unpleasant. This was a time when I was new to photography and my only model was my wife (which I made quite clear). Some of the comments about her would have destroyed her if she'd seen them.
