Hi everyone, me and my girlfriend are looking to go and stay in the lake district in a few months/weeks time.

Whats everyones reccomendations for areas/ and b+b's to stay in?

Thanks

Ian

I don't know about B&B's because we always book a cottage for the week but the Keswick area is beautiful.

Last couple of times we have had a cottage in a little village called Braithwaite which is a couple of miles out of Keswick. Three good pubs for food all in walking distance and you can do a good days walking without having to drive somewhere first.

The Glendale Guest house in Keswick was nice when I stayed there a couple of years ago. Only a 5 minute walk from town.

Thanks for the reccomendations every one, please keep them coming.

I have had a look at Keswick and it looks very nice indeed!

There are some awfy nice pubs in Keswick too. You gotta go to the Dog n Gun for dinner. The Goulash is something else!

I always stay around Keswick..if you like hiking in the mountains it's the best location, if you like to give the car a rest it has decent bus links to the walking routes too (Buttermere/Borrowdale etc)

Hi Ian

Like everything else it depends on your budget. My son got married at the Langdale Hotel & Country Club last September it's really lovely (if it's not raining ) http://www.langdale.co.uk/ we couldn't afford that so we stayed at the Gables in Ambleside - very nice & convenient location http://www.thegables-ambleside.co.uk/
Hope this helps

The lake District is fairly compact if you have a car.

I love Wastwater,Thirlmere and Buttermere the most, beautiful places and not generally to crowded.

I will be traveling up in my car yeah, so getting to the better locations shouldnt be a problem.

Ian, if you're thinking of staying in or even visiting Ambleside I'd recommend checking out Stockghyll Force waterfall. Its about a 15-20 minute (steady uphill) walk from the town centre.

My favourite lakes are Buttermere & Ullswater and as mentioned by Fracster, with a car there is really no reason not to see lots up there.
