Yes
Don't know what its called but it sits over the CPU and under the fan ... For a Intel q6600 and Asus p5 kpl board .... Even if you know where I can get one ....or even what's its called so I can try eBay ...lol .

Thanks

if it's a socket 775 mobo/processor (which I think it may be) then try one of these - heatsink/fan combo's...

(posted a link to a low-profile one, as I didn't know how much spare room there was in your system case - the one linked below would probably be a better bet if there was room to fit it though!)

Edit: oh - and I'm sure you weren't actually trying to get around the "trading outside of classifieds" so please everyone, no more RTM's on this one...

I've got one of these on my q6600 on an Asus P5K-E motherboard.

I also had a spare one that I threw away only last week!

yes its a skt 775 board.

Not actually the fan part ... Its like a metal bracket part that sits over the CPU and socket .. And leaves exposed the top of the CPU to put on paste before fan .

I sold my CPU and motherboard and the buyer is asking about this bit ... I never had it ...
But trying to source one to shut him up.

Probably comes with some boards

Its not a heatsink because it sits round the outside of the CPU ...secures it to the board.
Metal part of CPU is still exposed .... For heatsink ,fan to sit on top.

Some sort of clamp thing .... Can't find one cause I don't know what its called.
Sorry about this ...lol

Providing you're asking for the name of this "mythical ironmongery", and where it can be bought, there's no problem. If you were asking someone on the forum if they could sell you it, then yes, there would be. So - you're not asking for that, are you ;)

you cant buy the cpu clamp, they come with the motherboard and are not meant to come off!

may as well issue a refund as the boards worthless without one.

pot luck on getting a heatink on without trashing the cpu without it.

No ... If I knew the name of part ... I could try else where.

I had this CPU and board running for 3 years everyday without a problem .. I sold it at send it just as it was put together the day I bought it.

Not all boards have this part.

And if it was there and not meant to come off ... It would still be on it.

Dont have the bits anymore .... I put it together 3 years ago ... and sent the bits boxed taken out as one ... mainboard ,cpu with fan and memory .

So I cant actually remember how it looked under the heatsink.

Thanks

if you are talking about the CPU clamp then im pretty sure every motherboard has one. ive never seen one without going back to pentium 60mhz days. some boards they are removable.

google images suggests the asus P5KPL has one..

Mmmm ... well I can say it was either there when assembled .. or it was never there.

Thanks ...

Dont suppose you know where I can get one.

Well I have to say I just assembled an AMD Phenom x6 and it didnt have anything like this.

And as a 43 year old who has been building PCs on and off over the years I`ve never saw this until now.

Cpu was put in socket then the little lever was pulled back and secured to hold in place.

Then stick the heatsink/fan on.

Cheers

AMD's have been like that for years, dawdle to use unlike Intel.

It isn't the bracket with 4 screws that fixes through the board your buyer is talking about is it?

Not sure what hes talkin about .... lol

Think its the part from your earlier link ... will need to try a find one ... and one that will attach to the board without to much bother.

Thanks for your help BTW

From what I can work out its called a load plate .... I dont remember the board having it.

Certainly I wouldnt have removed it .

Dont know if it can be replaced
