Where to get photos printed?

All this digital photography is all well and good, and i have a few shots now that i am particuarly proud of. But they are all locked away on a hard drive which seems a waste so i am looking at getting a few printed.

How do you decide on where to get prints done, i assume there are differences in print quality depending on where you go.
Local to me i can think of a kodak store, snappy snaps and that's all i know of.

Or is there an online service people use that post the prints out?

try proam imaging there colour stuff is super and a great price

I've heard great things about loxley
for decent stuff try a place that has manual colour balancing as part of the price. not an option.
 
I hear good things about photobox service all the time.
Apparently they are very good at replacing prints when you're not happy with the first set.
I prefer to use a printer that gets it right first time.

i just use my local max speilmann. i do like these online printers but i prefer to do something face to face. i also now get a 20% discount because i know the manager very well now and so she said i can use he discount.
 
Looks like ProAm only accept submissions on a physical CD. I couldn't be doing with having to create one of those and post that each time.

I have used DSCL (DS Colour Labs) twice now and have been very pleased with the results, and they are pretty cheap too, i have also used Loxley thier prices are a bit more expensive (not much) but the finished results are great. (but you have to sign up to thier ROES system and this must be done within working hours to get registered)

and both places were very quick with delivery....

Edit.... oh and Togsprint on here... i have only had canvasses from Lee but they were excellent.

Another vote for photobox. Top quality product and service often delivered next day. When I questioned a set of prints (thought the colour balance a bit out) had a replacement set next day too!

Why do people keep going back when they keep messing up the prints?

Photobox again for me, although they do tend to chop edges off images from time to time.
 
I've used togsprint for canvasses and large prints and they have been top notch, do they do smaller format prints as well?

Togsprint and DS Colour labs, both great price and service. I downloaded at 22.00 to DSCL one night and they arrived the next day.

pro-am imaging or dscl for me, good prices and good service too. Would never consider printing at home when a top class professional print at 10x8 costs 45p, let down is postage costs if you just want the odd one though. Think 16x12 is about £1-£1.25 depending on which company you choose.
 
Loxley are no1 for me - photobox are fast cheap and pretty average for print quality - although service time is good! That's the way it goes though - you can have fast, cheap, good - BUT you only get any two!
 
Depend what you really want, if it's just normal photos say 9x6 then photobox, snapmad both on-line are great, face to face then I've been very happy with Jessops (Bolton) but not their on-line service.

If your have an A2 size for your living room then I guess the like of Loxley maybe worth it.
 
Has anyone had any problems with Loxleys software on a mac?
 
I've dropped photobox as I find their prints are quite often darker than they should be and the colour reproduction can be a bit hit and miss. I now use snapfish, quality is good for the price and the prints I've had made match my calibrated monitor the only bad thing is they take around a week to complete an order.
