Where to Get experience?- ADVICE needed

Hi

I am a young photographer and i am pleased with how my work is coming along but i now feel i want to get experience.

Should i go along to small local business's and volunter to take some photos for free, explaining i just want experience and then sell any if they like them?

I am really stuck and just want advice what would you do to try and make some money as i want equipment but cannot afford it but i also really want the experience.

It's worth a shot but you'll probably find most local companies will be a bit wary and suspect there's a catch, especially if you tell them there isn't one. Don't forget that they also have to consider the disruption your being there may cause to the working environment and their own customers, etc. so it's probably a bit of a hard sell if they don't need any photos.

Why not get some willing friends together and plan your own shoot as if it was a paid job. Define a brief, plan it, and then shoot it - there's plenty of scope for trying out ideas such as a fashion shoot, commerical portraits, products, etc. If you're short of models you could always try the local art centre/dramatic society and see if any of the members are willing to help out in exchange for some prints

Indeed.

Also goto your local college, preferably one that does fashion as a course and ask if you can 'borrow' the students as models in their own designs and let them have the prints.

When I did a C&G Photo course, they 'borrowed' some students and they were very willing to have photos done, especially if they got copies of them.

Or perhaps visit some local hairdressers and ask about promotional pictures?
