My company is giving me £500 towards the cost of a training course (as I am being made redundant early next year).

I would like to do a Lightroom 3 course but could only find a couple.

Does anyone know of any companies that do a course?

I'm based in SE London but can travel a reasonable distance.

Thanks

You might be better off doing a photoshop course.

Lightroom is fairly straight forward to use.

Photoshop to me is another beast altogether.

Greenwich College do a couple of Photoshop courses and a Studio Photography course.

But not Lightroom. I wanted LR for import/organise and quick batch correct (which I'm sure you could probably do in PS).

As has been said you can learn Lightroom from a book. A great one is Scott Kelby's. It goes right through the program from start to finish and is very easy to get to grips with. If i were you id buy the book and go on the photoshop course because the two work together so well.

Why don't you get a years subscription to lynda.com, it's about £350 and covers LR, PS and lots more.

Steve

Thanks for the help chaps.

Much appreciated.

Cheers Danny

Loads of FREE resources on the web - if you really need them. Spend time - read the help files - and LR is a doddle. You don't need anything else!

He'll still have to find something to spend the £500 on if he goes down the online route (Lynda excepted).

Try Hotcourses for local colleges - many seem to offer photo/Photoshop courses which are far cheaper than independents.

In your area there is http://www.36exp.co.uk/ Doesn't teach LR but could be very interesting and as you have the cash in your pocket to spend you may enjoy.

Just bought the Scott Kelby book and thus far seems good, laid out in a very logical manner

Been reading it in bed, but drop off to kip and then have to start again next night, read the first section about four times now :bonk:

Adobe do a Lightroom Certification, so it might be worth looking at their site.

WOW lots of suggestions. Thanks all. I investigate the different options.

Go to the Luminous Landscape web site . They do an excellent Lightroom tutorial and only about £20. ( its a download). Should give you all you need to know

Christine

I wont be photography full time. To be honest I have no idea what I'll end up doing.

I just want to become better at LR to speed up my import, naming and quick mods.

As has been said you can learn Lightroom from a book.

You might be able to, but I can't. Trying to learn anything technical from a book is impossible for me, my eyes mist over and I find I'm rereading sections.

As usual, when there's a request there's always a presumption that what works for someone will work for everyone else. People learn best best in different ways and without knowing the best method for the OP it's impossible to make sweeping statements like the one above.

Also, Lightroom is a multifaceted programme, simple to get the hang of the basics, but capable of so much more than I, and most other photographers I know, actually use it for.

As such, I find it bizarre that when someone asks for recommendations for a Lightroom course, people are suggesting that he reads a book and takes a course in Photoshop.

I'd love to do a decent course in Lightroom, I use it far more than I do Photoshop and like I said haven't even scraped the surface of it's potential, but alas there seems to be little out there.

Cheers Barney
