Yes
Am in the market for a mk1 canon 5d and have been keeping an eye out on ebay and the LCEx, but haven't been able to quite bring myself to the sticking place yet. Ebay prices are better, but I'm nervous buying second hand and the LCEx offer a guarantee (plus they've presumably checked the item).

Confusingly the LCEx don't seem to have any coherency on pricing between branches so the camera might be 50 or 100 quid cheaper, or the same price but with a battery grip etc etc

This may not seem a lot of money to some of you, but I've had to sell stuff to raise the funds and I'm serious about getting decent gear to try and get this business up and running. Not sure where to but from our even if it's inadvisable to but second hand digital gear.

Any advice or guidance appreciated...

Have a look at MPB Photographic

So far I have bought a Nikon D300 and a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8, excellent service and thoroughly recommended.

T4 cameras in witney/swindon/newbury etc

There is also gumtree but these will be mainly private sellers who offer no warranty/comeback so be very careful!

...

the reason theres no coherence on price, is that used stuff varys in quality, shutter activations, and condition, so price will vary from individul camera to camera

I know I'm lucky but we have 2 shops in town that sell (and buy/part ex) 2nd hand kit. We have a branch of LCE and also the (far better IMO) Devon Camera Centre. http://www.devoncamera.co.uk/ . May be worth giving them a ring and asking them what they have in stock at the moment. We're also within an easy drive of Mifsuds who have larger stocks and also (IIRC) have a wanted list and can hold stuff for you. http://www.mifsuds.com/acatalog/Second_Hand_Equipment.html .In fact, I'm being taken down to Brixham shortly - I'm licenseless at the moment due to having had to surrender it, NOT for DD or any other misdemeanour!

S'OK - Nod, wasn't going to suggest you'd been DUI or anything!

Gah. I'm frozen with indecision now. Mind you, I can't buy anything until the two items I'm selling have been paid for and the funds transferred out of PP.

Another vote for mpb great after sales service always found the goods to be spot on its the first place I look for used gear, find mifsuds more expensive

What about that batch of mint 5D mk1s in the TP Classifieds for £300 each? ;)

Another vote for MPB here. Upgraded all my glass to L standard through buying and selling through them.

Have used Mifsuds too in the past without issue.

Another one for MPB. I've bought a few things from them and they have been excellent quality and they give great service. However, if you are ever in the market for new gear then have a look at Hdew Cameras (based in the UK) or Panamoz (based in Hong Kong) as both give good prices compared to the high street and both give great service.

Slightly worrying this makes up about 50% of your contribution to the forum so far...

Remember it's a perk for 'contributing' members.

Just because you get to xx posts and xx months doesn't mean you'll get access looking at your post history...

Get into the C+C section or go help someone somewhere with something! ;)

60 days - 2 months - isn't too long to wait to get your hands on a new 1DX is it??

I have to sell my existing gear to buy it through here, which is frustrating! But hey, patience is a virtue and you never know - the price may come down in the meantime!

I can see the logic of having to wait before you can sell, but I struggle a little to get the same degree of understanding as to why I can't have the opportunity to buy genuine forum members' gear ... this rule is doing forum members out of a chance of a sale.

Adam, I know, I'm tongue in cheek here. But I think my point is valid - inasmuch as if I'm in the market to buy a nice used 5DMk2, and you are selling it through the forum, this rule is doing you out of a sale, because I can't see what you're selling.

Even though I may have been a member for 2 months or however long - just not posted so often - I can't see who is selling what. And that hurts you more than me.

The way the classifieds work though it's either you can buy and sell, or not do either. I don't think it would be feasible for them to do it that way.

I can see where you're coming from with the idea though.

As for your money raising towards your 1DX fund...stick it up on ebay/gumtree if you can't wait. Or check out the classifieds on AVForums which I believe haven't got a minimum criteria.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a cheap 1Dx on here for quite a while. Come back in 2015 maybe for that one.

For now you are free to use ebay which is just as good most of the time

Beware of Gumtree Con Artist check these 2 listing out,

Very very dodgy!

This one is so obvious when they include item like Really Right Stuff worth $140

The best shop is ffordes in Inverness, huge stock and great staff. I use them a lot

Thanks for the advices, appreciated. This is a nice forum with some good (and often very helpful) people on it, and there is certainly some talent around too. Photographic I mean as opposed to feminine.

I guess I'm actually in the wrong forum here, as I wasn't looking to buy a used 1DX - I'll either go through Ian (Kerso) or buy in the US when I'm next across - but was looking at selling some klt to help fund that. However I see the logic in keeping new members off the buy/sell sector, as it could easily be swamped with dodgy vendors as mentioned above, which could easily scupper genuine forum members selling their valid gear or buying something crappy through here, and I accept and acknowledge the validity behind that decision.

However I don't agree with the fact that the same requirements are imposed on any potential purchaser. I can think of no reason why a member of this forum would want to restrict the market for any kit they are selling through here. That doesn't make sense to me.

It would seem far more obvious to restrict the criteria for POSTING in the Classifieds, but not restrict the ability for anyone to view what forum members have put up for sale, as that isn't helpful for the member selling his or her kit.

However, if that is not technically possible, no point in me harping on about it!

two reasons as previously covered at length on the classifieds FAQ

First and foremost classifieds are a perk for contribuiting members - therefore it is not in any established members interest to allow new accounts to register, buy cheap then disapear (and quite possibly sell on ebay at a profit)

Secondly the restriction on purchasers keeps out 99% of the " can you ship to nigeria " , "can I pay by western union" , payment by hacked paypal accounts etc which polutes places like Gumtree - which is clearly in the sellers interest

It would seem far more obvious to restrict the criteria for POSTING in the Classifieds, but not restrict the ability for anyone to view what forum members have put up for sale, as that isn't helpful for the member selling his or her kit.
!

It is possible but it isnt desirable as trading by pm or in other forums is against the rules , all trading must take place on the classifieds boards so theres no point in being able to see whats for sale if you can't trade wihout breaking the rules
