I am looking at buying a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX II.

I'm going to New York on 16th September at which point I'll have the opportunity to visit B&H where the lens costs £323. However, where is the cheapest I could get this lens in the UK, either second-hand or brand new? I don't see many second-hand ones knocking around on here or the bay.

Thanks guys!

EDIT: As an aside, the DX (without the AF function on my camera) costs $100 less. Is that a sensible or false economy? This lens will obviously never be used for achieving shallow depth-of-field.

http://www.warehouseexpress.com has them new for £479

A couple advertised at Amazon ranging from £371 - £590, but the cheapest is sold by Purelygadgets and wouldn't recommend them with a barge pole, grey imports, company own warranty, major problem with advertising stock, taking your money then saying delayed waiting for stock

But B&H in New York looks the best at £324

Thought of OSD - Onestop-digital.com £363 delivered & can be with you in 2-3 days... & NO IMPORT TAX!!!

OSD Tokina 12-24mm

Cheers Pete and Steve for the heads-ups for those prices. OSD is a tempter at that price and with the promise of trying out the lens before I'm in the USA.

What about the non-DX model which won't AF on the D40? On a lens with short focal lengths like this, will I need to be precise with the focus or could I escape with MF?

The tokina f4 pro II is a cracking lens (have owned it) & has the motor in the lens iirc & if you do go for it from OSD at least you'll guarantee that customs wont be charging you when you return from the USA (there's always achance that they might at the airport)

Thanks. I'm still inclined to take the risk as it saves me over £100. I won't get hit with a customs charge to the tune of £100. Besides the ability to AF on D40s, what other developments did the DX II include?

By the way your inbox is full ;)

Regarding customs getting you on the way back - it's unlikely if it's in your camera bag with all your other kit. I've been through airports at least 20 times with multiple camera bags, and although they sometimes take everything out, they don't really check the actual kit.

If you're concerned about them seeing somthing new, fold the box flat, put any paperwork with it, whack it in an envelope and post it to yourself before you leave the US.

B&H is a great store, just remember that they observe the Jewish holidays quite strictly and Yom Kippur is on September 18th so they might be closed a lot around that time.

I got caught by that once myself, standing outside the store on a Friday and it was closed..
