I am looking to buy canon wide angle lens efs 10-22. Need guidance as to where i should buy it. The price varies a lot based on where i buy it the brand new piece. If i go for used one, lotta people recommended mpb site. But i notice that some websites are selling new lens for 500 bucks whereas mpb indicates price around 470.

If i decide to buy brand new, where should i go? And whats the best price for the new one?

Just had a quick look about on the websites I usually find give the best price and found the 10-22 on Hdew cameras for £470 brand new. Here's a link to it http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/canon-ef-s-10-22mm-f35-45-usm-269-p.asp I've bought a 5D2 and 24-105 f4 kit and a 5D3 body off them and can highly recommend them. They are in the UK as well, which means you get a UK warranty.

I did notice that MPB have a Tamron 10-24 http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/us...mron-10-24mm-f/3.5-4.5-di-ii,-canon-ef-fit-1/ and a Sigma 10-20 http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/us...igma-10-20mm-f/4-5.6-ex-dc-hsm,-canon-ef-fit/ which might be of interest if you're after something that wide.

Thanks for the link, stuart. Just a question, how is that there is such a big price difference compared to lets say amazon where they quote more than 620. Just being a little cautious. Would that mean its inferior in any way?

HDEW will probably supply a grey import rather than a UK market lens, but the lens will be identical and off the same production line. You will still have a valid one year guarantee, so there's no worries or concerns buying from HDEW. I purchased my last camera and lens from them and was happy with the service provided. You could also try asking Kerso for his latest prices for this lens.

Pretty good prices. What about customs charges? Last time I bought something from a Chinese/Hong Long I got a bill from customs 2 weeks later. Do they guarantee no custom charges?

thanks

You don't need to worry about Import Tax or Customs if you purchase from either HDEW or Kerso, as they look after that beforehand. You will get a UK invoice from both of them.

Its all about saving money at the end of the day. How long do you think you will keep the lens?

don't lens have an international canon warranty
it's only cameras that don't I believe
panamoz are probably your cheapest and if you pay bt BT they give you an extra 5% discount

read many posts that advise avoiding them
never used them myself due to the reports I have read

Hi Tony
I've bought 2 cameras, three lenses, and several other items, over the years and never had any problems. Any chance of specific senarios Tony, you've got me concerned.
regards Bob

nothing specific bob just remember lots of bad feed back when I did searches
good companies that came up time after time were hdew. flash camera, panamoz, digital rev that I can recall off the top of my head

Hmm.. So i would get an invoice and warranty if i buy from hdew? I am ok as long as i getting the original canon lens. I wonder why is it called grey market? So if i face any problem with lens, then what? Why would people go to place like jessops if there is no downside of grey market?

Peter: i am new here. Cant access classifieds yet. Btw whats OP?

I think it is a product which is not registered as a UK product so the companies save on tax etc, I could be wrong. If you face a problem with your lens then you send it back or get it repaired through Canon as it is covered for one year. I went to Jessops for my first camera so that I could see it working, speak to the sales advisors and get their input and advise. Great service, I just paid £400 over what I could have via the Internet, doubt I would do it again, simply due to the cost.

I'd heard that too, then again I'd also heard it was only L lenses that had the international warranty.

I'm not exactly sure what the reality is but I think I heard that Canon were cracking down on warranties on grey imports. Could be wrong of course :)

£465 at Simply Electronics

As others have said, I've seen far far more bad reports about them than I have good ones.

By all means go the grey import route, but use someone reputable like DigitalRev or OneStop.

Grey Imports are simply cameras purchased outside of the region they are intended for, so instructions, software are different, but the physical product is identical - drivers can also vary (printers for Asia using the correct drivers/built in software for things such as dye sub printers produce a different cast to skin tone as standard.
Companies don't like grey imports as it hurts that countries turnover/profits, as they can't control cost prices, so you effectively don't contribute for customer service/warranty repairs in that specific country.

L series lens are the only lenses that have a worldwide warranty (officially) unless things have changed recently. I believe pro bodies might have too, but that could be to do with CPS membership.

Obviously that's as I understand it - so don't quote me on it! ;-)
