Any recommendations where to buy a camera shoulder sling strap. Is there a danger of the camera swinging around at hip level half behind your back and smacking something? merv:bang:

Being using the Blackrapid straps no problems so far,as for buying keep an eye out here, brought a couple of the sale thread :)

Black rapid rs7 here.
No swinging if you lock both the strap slider things either side of the camera when you are walking about.

Another for tge black rapid merv they often come up on the classifieds on here at a reasonable price

I've got a couple of Q straps and a twin harness and the Q straps are excellent. I have it set so the camera is just below hip level and it sits there all day long. When I have it attached to the tripod mount of a larger lens I can rest my hand on the mount and prevent any swinging when I'm in a crowded area to make sure there's no accidents.

Hi - I use Q Strap for body plus lens combo, as well as a Sun Sniper which specifically attaches to my backpack when out for longer hikes; an internet search will yield some more info for you

I have the Q strap too. Love it.

I also have a Caden double strap I bought off eBay which I don't like so much. Well mainly the L plates. The Q strap L plate was fine but the Caden one's were a bit thinner and didn't have the stainless steel ring in the hole. This meant after one use I could see the metal wearing away where it rubs against the carabiner. I quickly replaced the L plates with black rapid fasteners. The Caden one has a K on it.

A friend of mine has the Black Rapid and I do think it's better quality than the Q strap but not by much. Not so much that I could justify the price difference.

My advice would be to get a Q strap unless you want the security of a named brand in which case go with the Black Rapid.

Merv I also have a Q strap in my opinion I wouldn't trust it with a D3S or a potential D4. It also does not stick to your shoulder as well as the Black Rapid.

Thanks guys and pop-up Soda Farl - looks like Black Rapid is popular. Saw a Sun Sniper steel core yesterday looked good. merv:bonk:

Are teh Black Rapid and Q straps suitable for CSC cameras ?

Does the Black Rapid cs-7 have a steel core like the Sun Sniper?:bonk:

Sorry to hijack the thread....but...what do the 2nd hand black rapid straps go for roughly?

Cheers

there is a black rapid that does have steel cable in it
but know the number of it sorry

I have checked Blackrapid's site and note that they now offer an add-on called the protectr

I'm wondering how many people have actually had someone go to the trouble of slicing through someone's blackrapid with a knife to steal their camera.

I'd imagine that the end result would simply be an annoyed person with a knife (ie NOT a good situation)

the thief is normally just an opportunist for a quick smash and grab imo

I've just purchased the sun sniper to go round Blackpool for the day, although it doesn't have the quick release strap it is £20-£30 cheaper.

The best money I've spent for a while much better than the standard strap :)

I've recently got a Black Rapid DR (double), an RS4 and a ladies RS strap - all from Amazon. I wear the DR and RS4 at the same time - they are very good.

A camera thief will generally not be an opportunist - if you leave opportunity in the way of a thief then they will take it clearly.

However - what the thief will look for is a person who is carrying a large bag (like a large camera bag), or who is out with their children, or with their family.

They will not usually use a knife, but more likely a pair of industrial scissors (this mainly in case they should be stopped for whatever reason).

The cut takes less than a second, and because you are with your family, or with a child, or have a large bag etc - you are not likely to give chase.

The principle is employed to good effect in London, where many tourists wear "bum bags", or have their cameras and mobiles hanging around their necks.

The professional thief will look for a DSLR - something that is easy to sell on - don't operate under the impression that it is an opportunistic thing, as it is a very lucrative business and the chance of being caught - either physically by person being mugged, or the investigatively by the police is very low.

Don't walk around with your camera on display, or if it is on display then have it on your front with the neck strap out of sight. If you must have the camera on your back or side then use the metallic reinforced straps. It's a sad reflection of things unfortunately but any DSLR is an easy £50.

Q strap works for me- I've got the 'ordinary' one but know that steel core ones are available.

Im not sure why but I didn't particularly like the Q-straps(practically the same as a black rapid). The thought of having a 70-200 even more so with an added speedlight worries me. Wouldnt take one if you gave me it for free. Gave my last one away for free! I have been looking at some straps lately but havent decided quite yet

I use my Qstrap with a 1D + 70-200 2.8 not problems at all.

Having had the connectors on 2 q-straps fall apart on me (old and new design) I won't be risking a third!

I use Black Rapid (A DR double strap) and haven't had any issues with it.

Common sense says I check the screws are all tightened every time I put it on. I use it with Kirk 1 inch Arca Swiss clamps which connect to the Kirk L bracket on my 5D3 and a generic Arca plate on my 1Ds2.

I find it very comfortable even when carrying a lot of gear, I did a wedding for a friend a few weeks back, had the 5D3 with 24-105 and a 550ex on one side and the 1Ds2 with 135 F2 and 430exii on the other side, shot for a few hours and no neck or shoulder pain at all.

 What, as in it's a strap cos that is pretty much very the similarity ends.

Using a black rapid with a 70-200 is no problem I wouldn't like to trust a Q strap though. I don't like using any sort of strap with a flash gun attached as it throws the balance of. I usually put my flash in my back pocket and attach when required.

Here we go again...........

Don't get your knickers in a twist! It's EXACTLY the same concept

It's a copy of it, in the same way you get third party grips and copycat flashguns.

Why don't you two save yourself from getting another suspension and put each other on your ignore lists?

The only bit of a q strap that concerns me compared to a br is the caribeener (sp?). Not sure I'd trust it with s big heavy lens, but that'd not to say it isn't up to the job. Currently using a caden strap at the minute....much more comfortable than a br or q in my opinion. Used with a 50mm so weight isn't too much of an issue

Yes stop bullying me Tony :'(

Another Qstrap user here, as a safety issue I have a keyring between the sliding part and the clip on part for a little extra peace of mind.

Some people need to wind their necks in before they get time off.

I've hung my 70-200, body and lens off the Qstrap and it's no problem at all.

When I first got it, I really gave the carabiner some stick to test it since I was also nervous about how it would perform under load. I did notice this link the other day on the QStrap site which shows the strap under a 10Kg load. http://www.qstrap.co.uk/test.html
