Hi

I have currently a Cannon 350D but I am thinking of up grading my body and wondered where to go next in up grading my body.

Don't really have the money for a 7D and quite happy to buy second hand to get a good body.

I tend to use my SLR on wildlife (mainly birds), land scapes and railway photography.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully recieved.

Tim.

I can definitely recommend the 550d - same sensor as the 7d and a lot of people have said they're very happy with the jump up from 350d

Alternatively, invest in some higher quality lenses

Just a thought - what lenses do you currently have and what do you find limiting about the 350d that you want to upgrade?

Used 'original' 5D bodies are going for less than £600 nowadays if you want the full frame experience. Otherwise a 550D is going to be a significant upgrade from the 350D. If you want wireless flash capability, look at the 600D or the 60D (or the 7D, of course).

If you shoot BIF, you may need a body with a more sophisticated AF system. Used 1D II bodies can be had for around the £600 mark as well. Bear in mind though, if you have EF-S lenses that you plan to keep, they will not fit the 5D or 1D bodies.

As others have said, knowing what lenses you have will help. When I upgraded from a 350 (to a 40D) the first thing I noticed was the poor performance of the standard kit lens. The bigger you go in terms of MP, the harder your lenses need to work.

Also, if you have all EF-S lenses, then it's pointless suggesting a 5D. If, on the other hand, you have a couple of L lenses, then that's a different story.

Hi All

And thanks for the advice.

The main lens I use currently for birding/wildlife is the good old Sigma 50-500, with railway photography I tend to play around with my trusty Canon 100-300.

So nothing fancy. Been looking at the 550D.

In regards to my current body (the camera that is), its just getting a little worn out too many days out in the field.

Tim.
