The Hay Wain is an oil on canvas painting by John Constable. It was finished in 1821 and shows a hay wain near Flatford Mill on the River Stour in Suffolk, though because the Stour forms the border of two counties, it depicts Willy Lott's Cottage in Suffolk on the left bank and the Essex landscape on the right bank.

The Mill was owned by Constable's father, and the house on the left side belonged to a neighbour, Willy Lott (a tenant farmer), who was said to have been born in the house and never to have left it for more than four days in his lifetime. Willy Lott's Cottage has survived to this day practically unaltered, but none of the original trees in the painting exist today. The water level is also higher, as that area of East Anglia has sunk into the sea by one foot (30 cm) since Constable's time.

for what its worth, The mill itself is immediately behind the painter/photographer, but yes, the location as a whole is referred to as Flatford Mill

Its in the highlands (they needed extra pacifying up there)

I'm off to ma bed - if no ones got it by the morning i'll reveal all (and not by wandering round with my dressing gown flapping open ) and put an easier one up

Nope - Ruvthen Barracks , its just west of kingguisse off the A9 ,

"Erected in 1719 following the Jacobite rising of 1715, with two ranges of quarters and a stable block. Captured and burnt by Prince Charles Edward Stuart’s army in 1746 - Interestingly it was held in the face of the Stuarts for quite some time until the seriously outnumbered garrison was forced to surrender , and the stuarts forces were so impressed with the bravery of the defenders that they let them live - the commanding officer was later executed by his own side for cowardice in the face of the enemy ! "
