Where have I gone wrong?

So your current behaviour, of insulting and somewhat venomous comments is how you treat everyone you get one with? Maybe you're just a keyboard warrior.

FWIW I'll buy products (not just photography) from people who'll interact with me. The world has moved on from very static advertising

Good for you.

When you put you head up there will always be someone trying to knock it off..

Just carry on Garry.. it keeps the streets safe

Garry is old enough and Ugly enough to look after and defend himself (although no doubt it is a comfort that so many people appreciate his input to the forums).

I doubt very much Jenny that your input is being as well received to be honest.

Marauding around the forum looking for problems that aren't really there all the while taking offence and slight where none is intended is doing no one any good.

I think if you took the time to read advice rather than dishing out your own I think you'd get on a lot better.

I think this thread has proven Garrys point.

I don't suppose for a moment everyone will see it.

I had the pleasure of meeting Garry, nice bloke and very knowledgable. He chooses to share that knowledge, and as far as I can see you don't have to buy lencarta products to benefit from it.

I replied in the "offending thread"

I'd wager Garry has forgotten more about lighting than I'm able to learn. He's open about his affiliation but more importantly his advice is very helpful. The lighting forum would be a much poorer place without him and Hoppy.

To the OP, I also echo the light science magic book. Best lighting book I've read.

I think, for the greater good of the forum, we can summarise and close this thread now:
  • If you don't like the content of a specific post, RTM to the staffroom and it will be dealt with in the appropriate manner [which may mean it doesn't get dealt with at all IF the staff feel it is acceptable]
  • If you don't like the way someone posts generally, the use the ignore function, do not have a go at them in a thread [see above point]
  • The admin of the forum have chosen to run it in the way they do and whilst always open to suggestions, they will be the ones to make any final decisions on changes or agreements, including those with our advertisers.
An @Admin may want to pop in and add to this, but for now, I think it is time to move on :)

As a member of the forum and as an administrator and co owner of TP, On the whole I'm more than happy with Garry and how he conducts himself.

Yes there have been times in the past where some of the posts have been judged to be outside of acceptable limits but over the many years where he has been a valued contributor to the forums the balance is pretty much spot on now. His affiliation with Lencarta is blindingly obvious (as required by us) but he does still provide a great wealth of knowledge and advice with other lighting issues too so it can't be said he's overly biased and using advertising status to garner sales. In the passed we've tried to bring onboard other suppliers to even out the playing field, sadly they didn't feel there was sufficient gain for them to get on board.....one even threatened court on us :bonkers:

Rest assured we'd love Bowens and Elinchrom and any other lighting manufacture to become as active as Garry, the more advertisers we have means YOU don't have to pay to be here

Garry........ Carry on as you are, that is being a member and advertiser within the rules of TP
