Hi all

I was just wondering what do people tend to store their lenses when not taking them out in the camera bag? Your home lens storage system I am asking really so they don't sit around getting all dusty...

I have a couple of lenses without boxes and not quite sure what best to store them in?

Thanks

Al

All my current gear stays in my camera bag.

But I've got a cupboard full of old film cameras and other old tat.

in the car, on the spare bed, in a bag, in the kitchen, on my desk, it just depends :)

I normally keep them in a camera bag but I must admit to leaving the odd few on my desk, usually the small primes (28mm, 50mm) but they always have both lens caps on.

that's what I tend to do, or various shelves etc but I'm sure I should be storing them somewhere more sensible (or less likely to be knocked off or have soft drinks spilt over it!)

I made an old CD trunk into a kit case using some packing foam and a stanley knife. It looks brill, holds camera, lenses and accessories tight, and cost to convert was about £15 all in. The packing foam I had made to size, and it cuts easily enough with a craft knife.

Mine all stay in my camera bag, but my bag is big enough for all my gear

Matt

I may end up doing that, but I tend to only want to take 1 or two lenses out which means I leave the others out, and let's just say they don't get put back in immediately due mainly to pure lazyness :cuckoo:...but my bag can only fit 3 lenses and I have a couple extra...I cold get a 'spare bag' for in house storage I suppose

In a case with a foam inner, havnt quite got the readies for a peli case yet but Jacobs do a reasonable silver case, you just pluck out the foam to the shape/size of the lenses and camera.

Thanks I'll look into that

on the spare bed, in the kitchen, on my :)

You're a brave man! They'd not last long in our kitchen, especially if I attempted the cooking! ;)

that's a cracking idea, and I have a spare CD case! Thanks

In the drawer under the bed with specific slots in the pluck foam.

Ok I know, I'm sad!

in my slingshot 300 mainly.

i did order a load of packing foam from "foam for comfort" with plans to make a hard storage case a while back but its one of those jobs that ive never quite had time to finish..

Camera bag and LowePro lens cases for those that don't fit - the cases can attach to the bag if I want to pick it all up in one go too.

Always used to store them in a camera bag, however stopped doing this a few weeks ago and put them on a well ventilated shelf now, which is quite close to a radiator - my rationale behind this is that if the camera's been outside at all, it'll probably build up a slight amount of condensation when you bring it in, which could lead to fungal growth - and keeping your kit in an unventilated environment i.e. camera bag seems to be a perfect breeding ground!

lowepro magnum aw, with manfrotto nano and brolly on straps on the top, optional pouches each with a flash and triggers in for larger shoots. all fits perfectly (4 lens, 2/3 bodies with mounted lenses, 2 flashes), ready to go at no notice. win.

by my measurements it should fit with room to spare for a netbook and clothes inside a peli 1510 too...

Apart from the one that's on the body (in a shoulder bag, maybe with a couple more) they're usually in a Peli 1510 case. It's pretty indestructible.

On the floor usually. Or on a shelf once I've tidied up. So, on the floor.

I only own three lenses so I keep them all in my camera bag. I'm trying to get into the habit of keeping my camera fully charged and my memory card empty so when I decide I want to go out with the camera I only need to pick up one bag and it's all ready to go without hunting all over the house!

I have a completely full Lowepro mini trekker.

Body plus 4 lenses and 2 flashes live in my Lowepro Slingshot AW 300 but I've got a small loweprp bag that holds the body with a shorter lens if I don't want to be burdened with the lot.

MY Burton zoom backack has a removable soft case that I keep everything in all the time; that just goes back in the Zoom when i want a backpack or into a Greys boat bag (for fishing) when I'm shooting stuff in boats or when it's super-wet.

In Camera Baga, Peli cases or a Gorilla-Box I bought out in Iraq. If in the G-B, they're wrapped in old towels and jammed in with all the other spares...lol
Here in Lash, it's all in a locked metal office-cabinet with dust-cloths/old shemaghs draped over them...

All digi-kit is in constant-use really so 'long-term' stoarage isn't applicable.

My old Film kit is boxed - the Hasselblad 500 kit and Pentax 6x7 kit are in Peli cases, the Nikon F5 and ancils. are in a Lowe-Pro bag with silica-gel sacks and the Leica M6 is on a shelf in the living-room, used as an ornament...lol

On a shelf, in a room in my house.

Is this a trick question? :suspect:

:p

A.

You've found me out!

No a couple of them rarely get used so migth accumulate a lot of dust, externally anyway. I also now have the prospect of my nephews coming over on a more regualr basis (twin 3 year olds and an 8 year old) and between them there is pretty much nothing they can't destroy so I'd like to have them somewhere where they are less likely to be knocked off....

I may just be overly paranoid of course, they've been fine so far!

I work in protective packaging so I have a Pelicase that was going spare at work and I am going to CNC machine a bespoke foam insert to fit all my gear. :)

Along with most of my other kit in a lowepro slinshot 300, although I am looking to get a bigger bag and probably a pelicase to store everything in.

hahaha...I'll swap it for a Holden Commodore SS-V Special Edition...

can do that for you, will haveto wait until I am out of hospital and I will find you one and ship it to you.

In a glass display cabinet, c/w doors, in my home office/play room... :D

... with all my other unused equipment...

... at the moment that's pretty much everything except my iPhone and Safari... :naughty:
