where do you put yourself.." added mine"

i would rate myself at 2 at the mo, im starting to get to grips with the camera now, but im still only learning, and from you guys i do that very quickly!!

Hoping to be at about 4 this time next year!

Onwards and upwards, eh?

Dion!

I'd like a 2D grid rather than a linear scale. My ability is very rubbish but my understanding is only slightly rubbish.

Also you missed level 12 - Shihan

5+

Plenty of gear and a reasonable idea!

It would have to be a 2 for me... which I'm going to choose to be happy about as this time last year I would have been sub zero.

Yay me! ;)

I would say i fit right in at number 5.

As Nod has said above some nice gear couple with a small splodge of knowledge.

You have no grades at all suitable for me, so you ain't getting an answer ...

:p
:D

i could make one special just for you mate ... now where to put it...

10 - in my child stuff, getting there in Weddings

7 - in most other areas, except 'Street' where I qualify as a grade 'U' - which is below EG's (bollx) of -20

You do start some barmy threads m8

About the middle would be fair, got decent gear and know pretty much what I`m doing. But at the same time still learning.

I think there's been an awful lot of people too shy/scared/daft to say what they really thik, and many have marked themselves down by at least 1, even 2 points from some of the work I've seen of them (although EG's - 20 takes the daftest biscuit by a country (Scottish!) mile)

MD you're a 6 FFS, at least as regards Shooting kids

So let's not have this unnecessary modesty chaps - if you're pretty good/brilliant - say so

i'd put myself at a two, have yet to take much worth sharing... definately fair more adept at taking snaps rather than anything with any creative merit!!

You can be very good in one area i.e a 5 or 6 but not as good or haven't even tried other area's of photography so how do you score this. Perhaps people could say I am a number ? in one area but feel like they are a number ? in other area's.
It can be hard somethimes to judge yourself unless you are totally confident in what you do, does this make sense????

If the same question was asked about our jobs then I am sure there would be alot more higher number. I for one do not mind saying I am a number 10 in what I do. But then again I have to be to bring food on the table for the family. Thats enough blar blar from me now.

Just come across this thread and I feel that the question is quite difficult to answer really.

I have been involved with photography for almost 30 years, I was a part time professional for about 12 of those years and a full time professional for another 6. I have photographic qualifications and have a very good knowledge of photographic techniques, processes and terminology, hell I even know what birefringence is.
So in my field of social photography (portraiture & weddings) I would probably rate myself as a 9 or even possibly a 10. But for product photography of which I did a lot less, I would rate myself as perhaps a 7 or 8.
Now that I normally only shoot for my own pleasure, I am taking many more landscapes and macro shots and I also find it difficult to get as proficient at photoshop techniques as I would like, so I would rate my landscape efforts as perhaps 5 or 6 (still understand the techniques just working on the compositional elements) and my wildlife macro stuff as maybe 4 or 5 at best (difficult to catch moving subjects) although my flower macros I would rate about the same as product shots. My photoshop proficiency is probably around a 3 or 4 on a good day.

So as a score for an overall photographer, and taking an average of the marks, being realistic I am probably looking at around a 6-7 give or take a bit. Not sure if that equates well to my experience really though!

Happy to call it a 5 for me but I think I 'see' better than I 'know' :)

7 for me:D

I'm putting myself at 5. I've got some good but, but a limited idea on how to use it :(

Gerald

I have decent gear and reasonable knowledge, I even used to do my own B+W processing many years ago.
So I guess probably an average of 5 i do better on some things and absolute crap on others

I would say im about 4 would be great to know what other thought about my togging mind you :D

I'd say about 2, i take the odd picture im happy with but still a total beginner, happy doing it though which is the important thing.

Definitely a 2! Maybe pushing 3 after christmas actually!

10 for my digital stuff

and 1 for film.

Seriously though, going back to shooting film has made me feel like such a newb in sooooo many ways it's untrue. I'm enjoying the challenge and enjoying my photography a lot more as a result though!

For me about 3 too5. Depends on the day i suppose, in a dark place at the moment cant get an image worth a light. :shake:

I'll jump in and say I am a 4, trying hard to achieve 5!
