Yes
I guess it varies across the country but I see all these beautiful pictures and I've never in my life seen a sunset like that (only on holiday). Around here it's just different shades of blue and grey with quite often a few pink wisps mixed in here and there

Hi Mr Penguin

Maybe if you add your location you will get answers that are close by yourself

Luckily I live in Lancashire on the west coast so sunsets are easily found with fab pictorial interest, such as boats, bridges, harbours, all sorts really also conceder sunrises which can be spectacular as well

Edit plus you may have to be prepared to travel afar as Matt and Darrell did the other day when they drove the 150 miles (300 MLs round trip) to come up to my area, and if lucks on your side you will be rewarded

Over the Thames? Just keep your eyes open for light separated cloud cover before dusk.

 I live in Aldershot Hants and the sunrise/sunsets have been epic of late.

A couple of tools for you 1) Photographers Ephemeris - free to download - it'll tell you what direction the sun will be when it sets and 2) The satellite images from the Met office. you are looking for broken cloud on the horizon in the direction of the setting sun. High cloud like cirrus and stratus offer the best chances of a good sunset. It's about having the tools, reading the weather, planning ahead to find a good location and being there when it happens. Legwork, really.

I'm in a village with a wide open field overlooking Lincoln cathedral and when the sunset hits just right it really is a beautiful sight.

I've just done one, south east :)

I don't look for them, I just stumble upon them.

Driving down the A303 to Devon for Christmas is always a nice ride as it gets into the evening (assuming there's no snarl up round Stonehenge as there often is), and the sunset was just getting fantastic so I ended up stopping and taking some shots.

I live in south London. I'm always up for road trip, shame I never have a minute to myself these days..

Over the last couple of days, the sunrise has been quite spectacular as well

Well you get them all over  it's just a case of keeping and eye out for them at this time of year your sunset is around 4pm  well just after :D

I can guarentee that you get them in London

See that first London one isn't really anything compared to all the others :p

But yeah, as I said will keep a look out more this year. Maybe I subconsciously block it out when I'm at work as I'm not allowed my camera and don't ant to miss them

Epsom downs? by the racetrack is a great place to catch a sunset! high ground and all.

Hi. The best ever sunset I have seen was taken in Exmouth , East Devon . It was taken from the edge of a cliff and was my pride and joy. Unfortunately my data card with it on was taken with my camera . But I am going back down there later in the year to try again.
