i just use Spotify its free if you dont mind the odd advert & its got every album you could ever want.. :)
 
I raid charity shops for CDs since many of my favourite record shops in London have closed :(

Big up for Spillers in Cardiff for still being open despite my 20 year absence.
 
Spotify. I use the premium. Not free, but no advert, better quality and you can use it offline.
 
Spotify, and Buy CD's almost daily from amazon.
 
Often buy the CD/LP from the band's own website- they hopefully get a little more of the money that way!
 
I buy CDs from amazon then copy them to my computer. Also use YouTube to listen and find a lot of new music.

I would download from iTunes if they'd offer higher quality files but as it stands there's a marked difference in sound quality between what can be had from a CD vs iTunes downloads or amazon mp3.

to be honest i doubt theres much of a market or its file sizes that keep quality at a medium area. id love the option to buy FLAC (or same quality) from itunes.

why do people just surmise your doing something illegal when sites like derek mentioned are posted on here. they are also used for lots of other downloads that's not copyrighted as well. did you never use a tape recorder back in the days to record & playback the top 40 from the radio.? same thing.

I also buy CD's from amazon etc or if it's an old one eBay, then rip em.
I still like to have the physical item with the inlay.

I have bought a few mp3 albums if there is a saving, I hate that some albums cost as much or more via digital distribution. Companies need to realise that there is less cost so it should be passed on to the customer. Anyway I have gone OT.
 
iTunes and Amazon, for AAC and MP3s respectively, depending on who's cheaper for an album. If a band's selling their work directly, on SoundCloud, Bandcamp, or the like, then that's usually an excellent option - they get the proceeds directly, rather than some measly share via some label. (And indeed, Muse's next release will even be available as 24-bit, 96kHz FLACs, if you've got the hardware - and ears - up to the task)
 
Used to be mainly amazon for CDs but then my hard drive went bang and decided to but them from iTunes so they could be easily restored.

However, the whole Bruce Willis thing is making me think about buying CDs again.

OK, here is a question - if I want to add music to my Android phone, or burn to a CD to play in the car, and bearing in mind all my computers are Mac's [would have used WMP on the windows machines to rip bought cd's for car] what is the best option/way to do it, legally of course... ?? I have never opened iTunes to do anything other then listen to the odd podcast, so its all a complete mystery to me :shrug:
 
I buy most of my music from Amazon, JunoDownload.com & quite often directly from the record label web store. :)
 
Have all my music on spotify unlimited , record then burn onto CD :-)

iTunes. Not a mega customer, maybe £10-25 per month. I'm more an 80s guy so its pretty rare I've not got the song already from CD rips. Mainly the odd modern song I hear which I actually like.

Used to have a Spotify premium account but after 6 months with 2 months of not using it decided to cancel it.
 
For brand new CDs, I go to Amazon and look in 2nd hand CD shops for (oddly enough) 2nd hand CDs. Then ripped using Sony's own Sonic Stage to upload to my MP3 players, again using Sonic Stage.
I believe the ripping may be technically illegal but having paid for the physical CD leaves my conscience clear enough to enjoy the music while lying on a beach or on the flight there.
 
Buy CD's from HMV or Amazon, ripped as MP3's into iTunes. Then onto my portables :)

Spotify rocks aswell :)
