Hello all,

I'm super excited, i made a decision at 3:00am to buy a nikon FM(one of those bad decisions:police::police:)

I've shot film before but I'm pretty much sure I've forgotten everything. I remember vaguely how to process film, I'll be probably doing it from home. And I'm lucky enough to be able to rent a darkroom where i live.

when i was shooting film (back in 2008) i was using kodak t max400. I still remember the beautiful tones i was getting from that film.
Any ideas where can i get it from, is it still in production?
I'm only looking for B&W film
by the way is it me or the prices have skyrocketed?i think I've seen a 36 roll for £14(ebay)?

That's not going to put me off anyway because i will not be shooting film frequently.

thx
Marino

Kodak films(bnw) are relatively very expensive (all colour is expensive). Stick with Ilford and you can get it everywhere on google. Speedgraphic do good 5/10 pack deals on ebay else if you can support your local store

Look at Analogue Wonderland for a wide range of film starting at £5 a roll.

The last lit of films I purchased came from FotoSence, very pleased with there service, and they actually had stock when most stores were out of stock

@acrobatic_Citron no local stores selling film in Belfast i think. I only know Wex photo but they don't sell tmax 400

which one from Ilford would you suggest?
I would love something similar to tmax 400.

@lindsay thx it looks like they have all i need.
I'll get a tmax 400 and I'll wait for some suggestions to try out a different film.

thx

I think Ilford Delta 400 might be the closest to Tmax 400 and it looks like Wex certainly stock it.

Yeah try Delta 400 - you mentioned though you wont shoot on the reg so stick to what you love

@Peter B thx for the suggestion, i looked it up and it does look like the tmax .
I'll get one of each!
great thx so much everyone!

I tend to get mine in Germany, but I paid €20 for E100 slide film (same price I paid for a 5-pack of Elitechrome ECs with processing vouchers 12 years ago!).

Where do you get your film from?

Well I get mine from the freezer ;) not much help I know

@excalibur2 haha well you got me there
i checked reviews online with samples and ended up getting the ilford, half the price. Haven't shot for a while so the mistakes are going to be less expensive :p
I'll be asking more questions in about 20 days, hopefully I'll finish my first roll.
yay yyyyy

I've bought my last few batches of HP5 and FP4 in 120 and 35mm from Amazon for less than £30 for five rolls. As a Prime member I get free delivery, but if I buy it from anywhere else it's the price of postage that puts it up unless you buy LOTS to qualify for free postage.

I'd just like to add that I'd rather not buy from Amazon . . .

Try Fomapan. The 200 is excellent.

Thanks, but I tried them - they won't deliver to the Isle of Wight. Maybe they think we stayed in Europe or have declared UDI or something . . .

Analogue Wonderland have loads but can be pricey. I’ve just bought a cheap bulk loader from eBay and a 30m roll (fp4 or hp5) ends up costing about half of what you’d pay for a 36 exp cassette on line. Takes a bit of practice and may not be worth it for you if you don’t plan to shoot much but if you really get the bug…… might be worth considering……..

I've looked at this a few times, but have decided time and again, that the small saving isn't worth the effort. How can you say it costs half? I found I'd be lucky to save 10%, so would have to use a lot of film in a short time to justify the outlay.

...but you don't have to use the film in a short time as it would keep for years, and don't forget the cost of film in the future......I have FP4 in my Watson that must be about 25 years old by now, anyway about 5 years ago used a strip for some testing on a subject and it was still good.

I buy directly from Foma Czech Republic. Fantastic film at great prices. Shipping costs are of no concern as I buy large quantities bulk.

h'mm Kodak gold 200 24 would be £6.82 and colorplus 36 £4.31

The last film I bought was XP2 from WEX but that was because I happened to be in store. Price seemed about the same as anywhere else. Film generally seems to becoming more widely available again. I saw LCE Reading posting about having Fuji color in stock again, they are a good store as well, not sure about mail order however.
Perhaps try some of the remaining traditional shops as they will have existing relationships with the suppliers and it owuld benice ot support them after buying your camera on the grey market!
