Bought my D80/18-70 kit from Grays of Westminster as they were actually cheaper than a lot of internet retailers, probably because the D80 was coming to the end of its run. Also got the 35mm 1.8 from them as no one else seemed to have stock.
Apart from that got my 70-300vr from Amazon for a great price before all the general price hikes and likewise the 50mm 1.8 from Jacobs.
I actually picked up my D60 there for £20 cheaper than everywhere else. I never shop at Argos but I couldn't pass on the good price. I also got a 4GB Ultra II card for £10. They do have their moments I guess.
I've been quite lucky with the price of my camera bodies from Jessops. They've been quite reasonable and not far off the cheapest price.
All my "L" lenses have come from OneStop Digital. By far the cheapest at the time and really quick delivery times.
Flashguns also from OneStop Digital for the same reasons as above.
Studio Lighting from WHE
Tripods from Black & Lizars as they were the only local shop to sell what I wanted as I needed them quick. Unfortunately they no longer deal in photographic gear.
Park camers for most, prices near enough and local with good service. One Stop for the SB600, and Currys for a second body (D60, as it was only 270 with 35 - 70 lens) and redsnapper for tripod. Nothing against Jessops, they just didnt have the deals at the time.
I think Jessops get some unfair publicity about pricing, (yes some itms are ridiculously priced) they did me a cracking deal on my D700.
I paid £1995 for mine, but this was with the admittedly maligned 24-120vr in a bundle. My copy of this lens seems fine and I am very happy with it.
At the time I bought it the D700 was at least £1850 body only anywhere.
Obviously its not just all about price when you make a major purchase, it is nice to be able to try the goods and compare before buying. They were excellent in this regard and I handled and fired off shots with a few comparable bodies before deciding on the Nikon.
All I can say is that they were really helpful and were a benefit to me with the decision process.
They are not competitive at all with some items I know, the 24-120vr was priced at £595 if bought individually for instance.
I guess all I am saying is that sometimes they do surprise you and come up with deals that no one else can match, so dont disregard them without checking first.
