................In the winter?

I have two active dogs that require a "certain amount of exercise"
( but don't they all?)
I go out roughly the same time each day
( 365 days a year rain snow or shine) and mostly to the same place.
I see one guy regularly with his collie,
called flower, (No not really I made that up :D )
and thats about it, since about October 2008.
Today the sun was shining and it was very spring-like there were dogs "everywhere"
fat little terriers podgy Labs and an assortment of Heinz 57's

Don't dogs need a run if its a bit wet or cold :shrug:
I guess their owners think not.
 
i used to love my jack russel he run around the house like a dog on coke it was funny as hell to watch realisticaly i didnt walk him as often in winter because she shivers and gets cold eaisly but she kept her self fit in the house

had to get rid of her as i had no time for her but she was really fit she was like a mini body builder of the dog world

I know dogs are "all different" just like we are
and I am not trying to pick a fight by any means,
but one of mine is a German short haired pointer
They have no second undercoat like virtually all other dogs
( so she only has one layer)
She works her little socks off in the winter
out in all weathers for 4-6 hours at a time,
she swims ( without any prompting) ice cold lakes.
When "we" break for a coffee and sarnie she gets
a quick rub down a bit of food and a "rug"
and she is ready to go again
( actually she never really stops its us humans that
need a break:D)
 
Not all dogs need the exercise, they need to **** of course but...I dunno, I have a miniature poodle and he's like hyper, when he's asleep.
Whilst awake he can do the equivalent of a ten mile beach run....without moving, such is the pent up fizzing ball of springs nature of miniature puddles.
Dunno how they last 15 years, you'd expect em to be burn bright but short lived type dogs :shrug:
Only thing dafter is probably springer spaniels, but they do need the exercise or they'll just explode :lol:
They say Greyhounds and whippets don't need much exercise either....strangely.

You make a sound point Cobra
I walk my hound every morning and night at approximately the same time. In the morning he never gets much - by his choice - he just turns around once hes had enough and that rarely takes long (He doesn't 'do' mornings!)
But in the evening regardless of weather, temperature and his desire to stay indoors we go out. Usually the same distance - only cut short when he really wants to just do what he has to and go home (Read heavy rain and strong wind)!

But there are people who you just don't see in winter. And these are people who have high eneryg breeds too. Maybe they just take a different route - I sure as hell would not want to to be living with a springer spaniel that is being walked infrequently!
 
My pooch is out most mornings at about 5.30. I don't sleep much so she benefits, I am out all day at work though, if I work from home she is a b****r to drag out at lunchtime, she just wants to sleep - likewise she is a little sod if I want to lie in, as she wants to go out at 5.30 !

She rules the roost though and I am a slave to my pupster !
 
I agree as well Cobra, I think people tend to forget that dogs originally were not bred to be pets, labs etc are gun dogs mostly. Working breeds tend to be very popular in our area as well, some nights I could be the only dog walker in the park. Especially if it's raining.
 
If you have one of those wee dogs you don't need to walk them in the winter.....



you just hold them out the window and squeeze :lol:
 
We walk different places depending on the weather. There are some places the dogs love - but I know that if its been raining I will be wading in mud. Also the livestock in the local fields varies so I'm more likely to walk some local areas at times when they are not full of pheasants or cattle.

So their dogs can dump on the pavement or other people's gardens and the owners can leave the carp there.
 
Oh and just to prove a point
Today at the same location same time,
and a few degree's lower than yesterday with "looming clouds"
there was the Collie & us :D
I guess the other hoards have now had their annual walkies :shrug:
