As the title really, where would you purchase a sofa from? all my locals seem to have many complaints about them.

My local choice is.,

DFS
SCS
John Peters
csl sofas

Bought ours from land of leather, wherre the cheapest at the time, but that was not the buying point for us we just wanted one that we felt comfortable sitting on.

They had some really good deals going too and also let us have it delivered to guernsey from their store.

Spike

land of leather was a choice until they went out of business. hmm did mention to the missus ebay but the face said it all so didn;t go any further lol.

Argos/Homebase

Land of Leather has gone to the great sofa shop in the sky I think.

we did have one ages ago from DFS but it collapsed and had no end of problems. we want some thing that comfy to sit on and non recliner as they seem hard.

Sorry it was about 4 years ago I bought the one I have from land of leather, lasting well and no complaints at all.

To be fair i could never buy a sofa without sitting on it., took me ages to find the one i have now, sat on loads that looked great but did not do the job it was supposed to, seat me comfortably.

As for the DFS sale still being on i have not got a clue, i do not think there has been an advert on for at leat 20 minutes so not too sure ha ha

We bought one from SCS - they were late on delivery (took about 12 weeks, they told us 8). :(
The delivery guys couldn't get it through the living room door so left it in the garage, I came home from work and within 10 minutes my wife and I had managed to get it in on the first attempt!
In there efforts to get it in, they managed to tear the hessian type material on the bottom and had to arrange for an upholsterer to come and sort it out.

Other than that, we had no problems!

On a more positive note, we are happy with the suite. :)

dfs always have a sale, they say they have one a year yeah all year round lol.

so scs get a thumbs up for the sofa itself?

Kirkdale or on of their sister companies. Good quality, reasonable and don't pay thru the nose like dfs for 0% finance.

harveys get a huge no no from me. long delays and poor attitude to problems. DFS quality is not great but they can be good value in the sales. Argos seem to think everyone is a pygmy.

My vote goes to Ikea...

We bought ours from Cargo, a leather 3 piece which was only marginally more expensive than the usual SCS/DFS stuff and has been excellent, we love it, especially now its got that more lived in look. It has taken 2 jack russells scrabbling around on it for 3 years and not to mention several TP'ers crashing on the sofa bed bit :D

Tesco have a sofa sale on.

DFS and Ikea are the only 2 places I have bought sofa's from.

The DFS ones have done well, they are fabric. We discovered that the fabric would stain from just water being spilt on it, so I got to know the lady who does there insurance cleaning as we did take the guardsman. 2 youngs kids helped with that decision.

Ikea one ok as well.

DFS for us. Bought from there before so got our last one from there too. It discoloured after a year so, had a DFS chap out and he agreed to get it recovered and did the rest of the suite too so it would match.

Good customer service.

We bought a sofa from land of leather and what really really poor service, The sofa's turned up damaged, so they sent replacements that were 2 different designs, had to go back to the store time and time again to sort out, I would never go near them again, plus the delivery men were not land of leather but contractors and threw the packaging in my front garden (Lots of packaging) and said that I had to despose of it, there was enough to fill me bin 3 times.

The previous sofa we got from DFS, great service and really helpful delivery men, sofa delivered in custom sofa protecion that they took away with them.

land of leather was a choice until they went out of business. hmm did mention to the missus ebay but the face said it all so didn;t go any further lol.

Been married 30+ years, we have bought 3 lots of sofas, all from either John Lewis or M&S, all have been brilliant. Says it all really, in the long term their initial high price is justified in my view. Bit like a decent camera (or lens) :)

Matt
(oh yeah and we have raised two kids in that period too)

I'd agree with Matt, our last two have come from M&S and have withstood serious abuse from kids, dogs and this fat heavy [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] lounging about on it.

We bought a leather:lol: two seater from ebay only to find out it was 100% plastic and developed holes rather fast........seller said it was leather with only the back plastic and it would cost us a small fortune to send it back so we just bit the bullet as it only cost 199 ....... lesson learned

We bought one from SCS - they were late on delivery (took about 12 weeks, they told us 8). :(

Yep, we ordered ours and were told 10 weeks max, ended up being 14 weeks!!!!:bat:

we bought this one from scs,

http://www.scs.co.uk/product.php?id=1090 and also bought a snuggler twister chair in the similar design from CSL of Doncaster and got free del and a set of spare cushons..

wifey decied on this and would fit the new decor colours. thanks for the advice.

always had handmedowns till this time , paid £300 for a 3 seat and 2 seat from ikea 2 years ago , cant complain

we bought a leather suite from Christopher Pratts in Leeds and the dye came out of the brown leather leaving us with red patches.
Pratts said it was because we had been sitting on it.
For an expensive suite you cannot believe the horrendous customer service.

i really do love the warrenty people. Because you sat on it. its like say becuase you drove the car its not covered.

crazy world when it comes to warrenty. thanks for you pointers. cheers

M & S have always been great quality (the ones that we have had) and Next furniture have been great too. Bought two leather two seaters from them about 5 years ago and they get better with age.

Chris :)

Tesco - buy one get one free at times too. Not high quality material but sturdy quality.
