Where can I go to learn?

I'm looking to purchase my first studio lighting equipment in near future, but this isn't a "what kit shall I buy" thread, its more of a "point me to where I can learn" thread.

There are so many lighting 'accessories' available, I dont know what half of them do. Softbox, beauty dish, honeycomb grill, barn doors, umbrella etc etc.

Could someone point me towards a good website and/or book where I can study what all these different things do, and how they can be used please?

The Lencarta Learning Centre has this article on what the various light shapers actually do, you should get some help from that.

Anything not covered, or if you have any other questions, just ask!

I'll go one stage further and recommend that you might find it really beneficial to do a days training like Lencarta ran last year so that you can see the kit in action and gain a better understanding of not just what the lights do but how many lights you need to carry out different styles of lighting.

If you read all the lighting questions and look carefully at the Lencarta site, you should be pleased with the value and service they offer.

Don't forget ........ if you buy cheap, you will buy twice and there is a lot of low quality equipment advertised on Amazon.
