Lets not let the facts get in the way of a good thread....it WAS Thatcher & her then governments fault, like it or not, it was.
It was she and her puppeteer Ronald Reagan that instigated the deregulation, in the small hope that the UK and US banks would have an edge on other world banks, it went tits up and now the current muppets with their tabloid mouth pieces are blamming the previous muppets for the crisis and the foolish minions just go along believing it.

I don't disagree, whilst they aren't to blame for the crash, they were to blame for having us in a bad financial position to deal with it. Note the note
An argument that held water under the previous coalition, but no excuses now. They've had some time to deal with the issues, they had enough time to determine the extend of the issue left by Labour, and they now have sole control over how they will continue and improve upon it without the constraints of a coalition....So yes, absolutely no excuses and they'll be judged upon that in 5 years time...

You are hilarious....still not getting the context of this thread and the comments then....And what personal insults?
But context aside, the foundation of the banking collapse was greed, pure and simple human greed by all involved...Those consuming it, those providing it, by everyone.....Those who didn't participate in such greed weathered the storm pretty well
Regardless of regulation being in place or not, people do not have to take up loans, nobody is forcing them, people should still do their due diligence when they buy and sell stuff, I do not believe in required state interference in such matter and it should never be an excuse to transfer the risk to someone else....

Oh you poor sensitive soul...my heart bleeds of the pain and suffering caused. If you honestly think that when you repeatedly are shifting the goal posts and being pulled up on it is an insult than life must be tough for you...I gladly have mistakes pointed out, one can learn from those occasions. But hey luckily we are all different otherwise this would be a dull place...
And that is exactly the point where the difference is in what is being discussed. Lack of regulation does not exclude mens rea. Yet the latter is what George (the Coalition) has made possible and introduced. That is quite an important distinction that seems to get lost or overlooked or just not understood. The two do not have to go hand in hand. I support the later, but not the former....Thus where you suggest I was praising George for doing so and implying a contradiction, I would suggest you have totally missed the point. Which is fine by me, and hopefully you understand the distinction now and can stop blaming Thatcher for all ills of today. Although I won't hold my breath on agreement of any of the points.
