No
OK guys so i bought the Nikon d3100 for my first camera last summer and although its served me well ive found several limitations which are doing my nut in, namely no auto bracketing (yeah i know you have the exp comp button and toggle wheel but still),wont act as commander for my sb800, doesnt have the AF motor and im sure theres a few other things that have slipped my mind this minute but you get the idea. I had the 18-55 and 55-200 lens' and i was planning on persevering with the camera for another year or two and investing any money i had on the best quality glass i could afford. I bought the sigma 150mm Macro and a SB800 out of my bonus last month and i wasnt expecting to have a great deal of funds available in the next couple of months, but ive come into a £1000 unexpectedly. Now im thinking i could upgrade and buy a new camera. Ive always fancied the D7000. As im sure most of you are aware the d7100 was announced yesterday(i knew it was imminent i read about it last night on the internet i think it may have been officially announced in the UK today?) Its £1200 pre order, and frankly im not willing to spend that much on a camera which will depreciate so shaprly in value, and worth to me over the next few years (in comparison with good glass anyway) My local shop has some d7000 in on monday and has offered me one for £480 (body only) if i give him my d3100 body. To me this is a much better deal im just wondering what you guys think?? I mean if i wait a few months my d3100 will be worth less and im not sure how much more the d7000 will come down in price, and when it will be discontinued??

I'd say now is the ideal time, as they've just released the D7100, so all the upgrade whores will be selling them from today onwards. Their loss, your gain. I reckon Ebay will be awash with them soon, and retailers will be discounting them to shift stock.

If you want it NOW, get it now! However, if your local shop is willing to deal now, the chances are that they'll be willing to do a better deal before too long. The best time would probably be when they have just one D7000 left and could do with the shelf space! Of course, by then the only one they have left could be their display copy - another bargaining point in your favour (if you'd be happy with a low mileage but 2nd had example, possibly with a full warranty...)

£480 AND your D3100 doesn't that good a deal to me, unless he's giving you the £200ish your D3100 is worth? (are we talking 2nd hand or new D7000 though?)

D7000 body's have been selling for around £500, but that could be heading south with the D7100 news. But not sure how low they'll go?

Just paid £600 for mine new and I'm not sure they'll go down a massive amount before stock goes so I'm going to hang onto it, there's such a big price gap between the D7000 and D7100 that I reckon a lot of folk will like myself still be looking at the older model, it's already come down a lot in price from when it was new!

its £630 brand new (which is only £5 more than the cheapest ive seen online in the UK) for the camera and hes giving me £150 for my d3100 which im happy with as they are £300 brand new so its what i was expecting. I guess ill see what happens in the next few days and maybe hold off till the end of next week see if hes willing to go any lower.

Picked up my D7000 (4k clicks) + extra battery here for £450 a while back.
Get a decent used one and sell your D3100, everything else will IMO be throwing money away at the present.

I agree. I sold mine for £450 as I preferred a fast buy it now sale than hanging on for £50 or so in auction. It had around 4K actuations on it, that's all.

Find one on ebay from a seller with loads of + feedback you'll be fine. Then sell your 3100 on Ebay... you'll save loads of dosh. Once you've owned a new one for a while, it is no longer new, so what's the difference if it's mint, boxed, and only a hand full of clicks on it?

looking at ebay im going to be lucky find a decent used one for £450, and i dont have access to the classifieds as ive not been registered for long enough! so for the hassle involved i think ill just have to get the new one (which i prefer if the saving is only going to be in the region of £100 anyhow) unless anyone reading this in the South Wales area has one for sale :whistling: have cash, can travel !

I was in the exactly the same position 3 months ago i paid £630 from amazon for the d7000 body and sold my d3100+18-55 kit lens all boxed still had some warranty for £280.

Ebay will always get you the best price but you will pay 10% fee's

get the D7000 it will blow your mind compared to the D3100 i was :D

i never saw cheap D7000's on ebay they were always old.
new gets you 2 years nikon warranty as well.
