No
got dragged out round the sales today as the wife wanted a new winter jacket ,I have never in all my years seen so much rubbish in the shops ,fine if we were going on a summer holiday ,but not a item of winter /seasonal stuff on sale anywhere . Rail upon rail of t shirts and tatty garments everywhere anything decent was a full price as well ,she eventually found a coat she liked and was the right size to ,but at normal non reduced price . Total rip offs going on with thousands of idjits all over looking for something that doesn’t exist anymore a genuine bargain !!

Sales have always been special stock brought in to get shot of it, BHS were one of the biggest culprits.

C&A used to have some good clothing sales, but they went bust - maybe that's an answer in itself.

During my late teens and most of my twenties, I only ever bought clothes twice a year - summer sales and winter sales. Didn't see the point in spending full price on clothing when I knew it'd be on sale at half the price a few months down the line.

Not quite the whole truth ,like Netto they simply withdrew from a difficult u.k marketplace ,I spent more than a few happy visits to c&a in Poland a couple of years ago and the wife was chuffed to go to a netto there as she used to work for them .

You don't have to wait for sales to find junk in UK shops :(

At the time C&A gave up on the UK market, I was living about 200m from one of their stores in Germany and was a regular visitor. Always try to seek out a C&A whenever we're on the continent, favourite in recent years is in Maastrict.

C&A are still on the mainland of Europe (Dutch company) - Amsterdam have a few stores!

Always a good range of winter coats AND cheap reasonable Ski gear

Debenhams is pretty much my go-to for clothes - always a sale on there

Having worked in and around retail for most of my life I can say with some certainty that there's no such thing as a genuine sale, never has been never will be. Be happy that you find something that you want/need at a price you're willing to pay

Goods in shops are always for Sale, a better term should be reductions. :-)

These days where there's always some sort of promotion on or stores with online/physical outlets I would agree. It naturally brings all of the prices down to an already reduced rate.

Unless your chosen brand chucks the excess stock out to tk maxx or other clearance outlets its pretty hard to get a bargain.

You have to be pretty lucky to find the good stuff if the staff don't hoover it up.

Bought a new fleece ski type hat from C&A in Wuppertal (Germany) only last week, seemed to be doing a good trade

Sometimes you can pick up real bargains when there isn't a "sale" on.

We'd been away for a few days over Christmas, got home yesterday and I popped out to Waitrose to buy something for dinner. I came back with a huge trolley load of stuff. They were apparently selling off all the fresh meat, fish, veg etc that they'd got in for Christmas but was reaching the end of its sell-by date. A side of salmon for £5? Yes please. Boneless leg of lamb for £4? Sea bream fillets for £3 a kilo? Pork escalopes for £3 a kilo? And so on, and so on. I've got a freezer full of stuff and a day of cooking ahead of me, but it definitely was a real bargain.

You don't want to be in Waitrose when they sell the Christmas selection boxes of biscuits off.
Pensioners go mad for them, nasty old bastards they are too, fuelled with rage from the free Daily Mail and high on caffeine from the giveaway coffee.
Last year they imposed a four per customer limit, trolleys were full of Rover Tea Time assorted

I worked for Next , At sale time they empty the shops of current stock and fill the shops with stock they have not been able to sell for years

Sainsburys are doing half price sales on Tefal frying pans. You can pick up a 32cm for £10 which isn't too bad.

Willing buyer, willing seller, just like all the times when there isn't a sale...
