When HDR was not such a good idea.....

I tend to shy away from HDR. It makes photographs look unnatural, adding something that isn't already there, or at least, if it is, it can't be seen with the naked eye.

There is a place for HDR, I go to Petemc's website and blog often, just to marvel at the images. This is not normal HDR though, not run of the mill HDR. Pete has elevated HDR to an art form, where it transcends photography.

Unfortunately. most other HDR I see does absolutely nothing for the photgraph. Now and again though, whether by dint of skill or accident, I see one which is really spectacular, and that's how I believe HDR should be used - to make a spectacular image, not to artificially improve a poor one.

or if you feel overwhelming desire to ramp all the settings up to the max :shake:

But that sure is fun! :D And...some images can take it.

Where's petemc when you need him?????

Probably a good idea!

:lol::lol::lol::lol: That made me chuckle.

But more often that not you can see it with the naked eye? you just cant photograph it -cos your eyes see a better dynamic range than the camera can capture....i think...LOL

I used to hate HDR......now I use it.

Sorry, I disagree. I've yet to see anything with the naked eye that resembles an HDR image, and I have perfect 20/20 vision.

I really shouldn't get involved. People died last time.

I was wondering where petemc was too... come on pete you must have had some disasters when you first started out?

I use HDR when I can't get the range in camera that I need otherwise, like this.

I try and make them as natural as possible, but some attempts have been truly appalling and found their way straight into the bin. So I can't share them with you lot.

Plenty. Oddly I didn't think to save them. I have enough HD issues as it is without keeping the bad photos :D

And with memory so cheap these days too... shame:D

I already have over 2tb with a 1tb backup thats getting rather full :p

mmm thats quite a lot really, I'll let you off then;)

If you do some research into HDR you'll see, no pun nintendoed, that its designed to capture a greater dynamic range than what your camera does and what your eyes can see. To put it simply, HDR brings photography inline with what you see. Unfortunately artistic license plays a part in the conversion process.

Can we not get this thread back on track? Its for posting rubbish HDRs. Or, at least that what I thought it was about. Or have I missed something?

I didn't get where I am today, by posting rubbish HDR's ... i just post rubbish photos full stop....... :bang:

HDRkittykats.......... Totally unnecessary! I don't mind HDR when it's needed in contrasty situations, but it seems that when people do it just for the sake of it that these monstrosities occur!
