I remember a policeman asked me directions once, he was looking for a street that was not on the map. I wonder how many would have pointed him in the opposite direction?

Apart from the small matter of how much a high speed accident costs us the taxpayer. That's the reality of modern policing, it's based on the cost of crime to society. Making us drive slower is a cheap (revenue creating) way of saving money.

If the lawmakers really wanted to make a difference, they'd control rather than criminalise drugs.
 
I do see pcso's going round in pairs but the one thing that is also galling is the closure of village and other sub stations.

A few years back on a business trip that took me through the welsh valley towns I spotted a group of youths and I was very sure I saw one of them with a handgun this predated mobile phones so sought out the police station to report it but it was shut and clearly had been for some time and though I drove round looking for a bobby or patrol car of none was there a sign!

Suffice to say I gave up and carried on to my next appt.

Most do close at certain times now and you have to ring the outside phone. Then they may let you in, that's if they are in. I remember ringing the Police, this was to report car windows being smashed at that very moment. I was told they had nobody available, and they would try and get another force to attend. I had rang Greater Manchester Police, but Cheshire Police were sent.

If we were up to no good they'd just wait near our house to catch us on the way home.

As kids we never understood how the local police knew were we lived, we always went nicking apples with our distinct white Labrador :D

Years ago, that'd earn you a clip round the ear from the bobby,
and another from your parents when they took you home.( For getting caught :D )

Can you imagine reporting someone scrumping these days?
They'd just laugh.

Germany is totally fine with derestricted motorways. As long as everyone does similar speed it is very safe. There is also a huge benefit to the economy in a shape of reduced travel times and congestion. We may have to introduce stricter MOT standards, and stamp out drink / drug driving altogether but it is totally worth it regardless.

You forgot to mention upskilling drivers who passed a simple test 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or more years ago and are a danger at the present speed limits! :rolleyes:

It will be easy to get rid of them. Minimum speed cameras on motorways - anyone doing less than 55-60mph gets 3 points on the license (HGV limit would be raised a bit at that point). That would get rid of those 35mph-everywhere drivers quickly enough.

Apart from a few isolated patches of highway near city centre I've never seen such a problem bar heavy accidents. I'm sure they could be dynamic cameras that take this into account but also penalise double for causing tailbacks by lane hogging.

My mate has hundreds right at the end of his boundary, but he does live in France,
next to an orchard :D

And keep this to yourself,, there are loads in Tesco's and you don't even have to climb trees to get them, they are just laying around,

You've got to cringe at some of the comments on this post... There are 15k less Police Officers employed since the wicked witch Theresa May got her hands on some power. Yep, they bring some cash in from speeding motorists, but if you ain't speeding you ain't going to get a speed awareness course or points.

With the long waits on booking folk into cells when arrested, due to lack of resources at Police stations, less officers are visible. That in addition to dealing with mental illness in the community, taking folk to hospital, searching for missing people, dealing with obnoxious drunks and general scum of the earth, oh and of course all the paperwork that goes with it...

The government that has been voted in, say there are more Officers on the frontline, but what is the frontline? Not a single MP can tell you that, the harsh reality is that if you need a Police Officer and you've got to wait, then speak to your MP!

As for those good folk in Scotland, they do have more Police Officers and they made a right royal screw up of that accident. But unfortunately these things happen, 1 very bad incident shouldn't overshadow all the good work that is done by many.

Finally, those that complain about the Police and moan about how little they do should just try being one for a day..... Unless you've lived it, seen it and dealt with it, you haven't got a clue! :ty:

Been there, done it and got the t-shirt ... it isn't totally 'resources' TBH, it's the same with all so-called 'Public Services', so many folk have forgotten how to serve the public and are only interested in their own well-being. As for the 'these things happen' with regard to the appalling issue of the missed accident in Scotland, that is all part of the malaise.

Took this photo some weeks ago in the park, Police were cracking down on illegal quad bikes and they were holding an awareness day. Sorry for the poor quality, I was using my compact at 20x zoom while walking.

I posted this on my FB page with the following text for a laugh

( Someone was accused of not picking their dog poo up. The park warden called the police because the dog owner would not co operate. But by the time the police got there, the warden could not remember where the poo was. It seems they called in the police helicopter, to use it's heat seeking technology, to see if they could pin point the dog poo.)

One of my stupid friends replied ( What a waste of public money it's not even amusing in anyway is this what we pay council tax for ? Fuming )

Not told them the truth yet :confused:

Have you any idea where the M25 actually goes? it doesn't go INTO London it goes around London passing through
of the top of my head, Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex.
(there are probably more counties but I CBA to Google)

Then (and these are just those I regularly drive) M20, M2, M3, M4, M1, M26...all of which are often reduced to 30mph without the need of an accident.

I use the M25 to avoid going to London, where I live we are still wondering what Public Transport is as we don't have much.

The song 'Road to Hell' by Chris Rea was inspired by the frustrations of driving on the M25 during rush hour,
Friday afternoon/evenings it just becomes a car park.
Last time I went to Whipsnade as I was leaving at 5.15.pm for a 2 hour journey my satnav was giving me a home arrival of 11.30pm due to M25 traffic, luckily a detour
meant I was only 15 mins later expected.
Sometimes it really is a luxury to drive at 30 along it
 
Are there many roads with a restriction on slow vehicles? I know of the raised section of the A45 round Northampton, but can't remember seeing signs elsewhere.

And ever since they put the "Smart Motorway signs" on the M1 up my end, they are rarely off south bound, between J12 & J9.
And that included 3am-4am . I wonder why they are on, on clear motorway.
I'm sure its nothing to do with the over head speed camera's that back up the signs ;)
