Wheel's magic chair

If you really feel the need to do so publicly Ade, start another thread in OOF :(.

However, I think it might be better to take up any concerns you have in private with those responsible for organising this.

Paul

I understand your point with 'private discussion' but an open discussion would certainly 'clear the air' So many posts and threads have been deleted? It's become a bit too PC (IMHO) with judgement by consensus, rather than being open to facts and reality

Darren. I have got a spare D bracket at work (like the one Graham sent). Any use?

Also spare CF reader - pretty decent sandisk one - looks sexy in shiny black.

Sorry, I am speaking to rather a lot of people at the same time. "D bracket" ?? Whats that bit then?

Darren

Another clamp. Graham maybe able to give more info? Like top left of this pic:

Agh sossa. Was part of my haud at work and thought it was a cool bracket you could use.

Card reader there if you need.

Why does a group of people chipping in to help a fellow forum member out have to turn into such a s***storm? OK TP members have raised 3K. So what, the guy deserves it. Everyone who contributed did so in the understanding that their donation was going to Wheels. It would be an insult to them to now start dividing the funds raised into other causes. And can you imagine the ensuing arguments about who gets what?

Appreciated, at the moment I am going to sort out Julian's chair and then I am doing at least one more.

Watch this space for something else I am looking at doing which will benefit lots of people but I can't discuss it till I know what is involved. I would suggest that most of these types of things would be just the camera platform.

Julian's was also a prototype, now we know what we are doing!

Hi

I think that everything that was donated should go to Julian, after all it was raised for him, it did escalate quite quickly and a vast amount was raised beyond anyone's belief, and TP member generosity is truly outstanding, I do think other members, could and will benefit in the future, not sure this is the right place to air these feelings, with all due respect to members, Julian didn't ask for any of this, he simply posted he trashed his camera, and the unexpected comradeship of TP members responded, he must be overwhelmed, with it all, as I think we all are, in future I think will be done a little (understatement) differently, because no one could have fore seen the out come, and I think that nothing more like that should be said on this thread.

I think that a new thread should be started, with suggestions of how we can all go about it again.

I also dont have much cash personally,

I have been a recipient of TP generosity twice, because of my Illnesses, in which I received a gimbal head for my tripod, to help me with my shaking hands, and Raynaud's, which I thought off 1 TP member was a fantastic gift, and truly grateful and appreciate his generosity (thanks again John), and has helped me in my love of bird photography, and also a member gave me a cokin filter set, and no-one questioned that, Ok its not on a massive scale but I was overwhelmed at those gifts. so spare a thought to what Julian must be going through

well those are my thoughts

I didn't suggest the discussion should be about dividing the funds! .... My point was about discussing the way it was raised and the sums concerned  snd tbh if it turns into a s***storm? then perhaps it is worth the discussion

As I've already said, if you really feel that this warrants a public discussion then start a thread in OOF. Personally, I can't see anything positive that could come of it :(. Alternatively, take it up in private with those who organised this originally.

Please though, no more discussion on this in this thread :nono:

Back on track, I have an older 055B tripod that I no longer use (or need) what bits do you need from it? It is missing the little handle that controls the clamp that allows the centre columb to go up & down, Manfrotto no longer make them but I suppose something could be fabricated to work if that is required.

I am going to be asking anyone who has any broken 055 tripods for the bits! I have a second project to run straight afterwards and could use parts from that one. The missing part is probably still obtainable but will be a bolt with a plastic thumb knob on the end so I can make something to replace it anyway.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Just finished the mounting plates, will be delivered ASAP.

Mark

For Project 2

I have a Chinese copy of an 022 Manfrotto head. It looks and feels as though someone took moulds of an origional.

I don't use it, is it of any use to Project 2 ?

Having donated on day one, I've been a bit busy and I'd lost track of this for a week or so. Well done Rob for kicking it all off and for everyone else who's since been involved.

Not well done to the odd lone voice dissing this scheme. Its dead simple: if you don't like things like this, don't give to it, let others choose to do what they like with their money/time spare kit and if you didn't give, what right do you have to stick you nose in anyway?

Thanks for donating and I hope you like the finished product when it gets delivered tomorrow.

That would be really very useful. I am hoping to give more details about Project 2 shortly but suffice it to say that someone else will definitely be benefitting as well.

Im getting it tomorrow????????????

No sorry Julian,

I am hoping to be coming round tomorrow to try and dry fit all the brackets etc and make sure everything fits. Then we will arrange for a day hopefully next week when Stuart can come down too and we can set the whole lot up for you and show you how to use it.

Then we want pictures :)

Sweet jesus I just got all giddy

I even spent a couple of hours last night cutting the foam out to take the screen, camera etc.

CGeezer brought round his SB900 today to let me cut round it so I know it fits too. Oooooo SB900 niiiice flash :)

I do hope Stuart realises he me be here a long time as will you Darren and who else may be turning up, to show me how to work it all.

It's easy

Seriously though, you will not get everything straight away. They are complicated because in order to give you control over everything they have to be that way. As long as we have good instructions on setting it all up (which I will sort out) and you know how to take a picture then that is all we hope for on day 1. No doubt the mountain of books (which I will bring tomorrow to get you started) and the endless experts on here will have you taking top notch images in no time.

Right this is it, the prototype is COMPLETE !!!

Here we can see the aluminium plate made fantastically by Mark (MarkW08). He made three of which one is used here to prototype and the other two will by sprayed black and used to replace Wheels' plate in a few weeks and the other is being used on PROJECT TWO :). This plate is bolted to the head of a Manfrotto 055 tripod from Andy (Rovers_Andy) together with the down tube from the same tripod and the other part is from Graham (Flash in the pan). Which is a Lighting stand to bolt assembly. The extra space to the bottom left and right MAY be used to install a FOCUS and SHOOT button wired to the remote of the camera. This is still in design and so will be fitted to the painted plate in a few weeks but does not stop it being used till then :)

wheels-003.jpg

Right now we attach the FITP assembly to the aluminium plate. You can see the height adjuster has been replaced with an allen bolt. Wheels' can only use the camera at a certain height. For PROJECT TWO this bolt will be the standard Manfrotto adjuster.

And here we have the super clamp attached to my desk with the magic arm attached to it (both donated by Studio 1 - Manfrotto's importers). Then these are attached to the assembly which is now fitted by the Manfrotto 222 joystick head

wheels-010.jpg

Lastly we have the camera sat on top (this is a stunt camera as Wheels' camera will arrive on the day itself)

wheels-012.jpg

I was hoping to attach it to the chair today but it did not arrive till late and I had to then drill the plate for the tripod plate and assemble everything. I am at work soon so didn't have time :(

I will however be visiting Wheels on Monday and dropping off all the books that have been donated and attaching this to the chair for the first time (and fixing his laptop ;))

Once I know everything is fitted and working we will hand over everything on the next day that both Stuart from Digital Depot and myself are available to get there on the same day.

Then I start on PROJECT TWO.........

I bet your all sick to death of hearing me say thank you. But thank you all so much, the suspense is killing me. Did you say "IN A FEW WEEKS"? My god I will have cracked up by then with the way Im feeling about it all now :D :cuckoo:

Cowasaki I didn't find the top plate for the part I'm sending you until last night. I'll bung it in the post Monday.

This is getting all exciting now :D

No in a few DAYS, hopefully next week.

I will work on your own personal plate with the remote switches and swap it for my prototype one in a few weeks time but there would be no point in delaying it just for a bit on paint etc. That is WHY Mark has made us three plates!

OO I would like to donate a numberplate - TOG1 maybe?

Darren I think you may need to patent this as so far between everyone this is the best and most user friendly method. It is going to make me and project 2 a lot more comfortable and easier whilst togging.

 For your mobile photostation you mean.....

Would you like it?
