how turn my chariot into a Dalek

Got a mate who has built his own full sized Dalek.... (that he rides around in for charity stuff, (and held up Picadilly on Sunday))

He has a spare voice converter if you want a real Dalek sound.....:lol::lol:

Can't wait to see this contraption when it's done mate.....

Just one question - has anyone thought about those little rigger things you get on scissor lifts... I'm not sure this chair won't topple over with all this gadgetry on it!

You might need to pimp your motor and wheels too while you're at it so you don't a) sink or b) find you can't go up hills!

Can't wait to see the finished product - think I'm almost as excited as Julian...

:clap::clap::clap:Hama:clap::clap::clap:

well done Stuart you are a real star I know how hard it is to get free stuff off vendors these days:)

Not got an update on the insurance yet Julian, I did call a few times today but I think the nice lady must have been elsewhere today so I left a message and will try again tomorrow :)

Well I am going to need to fabricate (or get fabricated) part of the metal work after all !!!

Using an arm and clamp on its own will not be stable enough as they will be fully extended. So I need to make some brackets.

The camera will sit on top of a Manfrotto vertical tube from a 055 tripod which will sit in the top section of an 055 tripod. Now what I am going to need will be an aluminium plate maybe 6mm thick and about 11cm by 16cm with the corners rounded. This will need a hole cut in it 35mm in diameter (in the right CENTRE) and then mounting holes (which I can add).

Then I need to fabricate three connecting pieces to mounting points on the chair. I have sorted the location of these out and I am just thinking about what to make them out of (60cm x 2 and 30cm x 1).

Ho hum.....

I want the platform to be VERY stable !!

I am at a wedding tomorrow so nothing will be actually done till I am off on Monday. If anyone has any ideas or access to a piece of aluminium that size or BRILLIANTLY if someone can make this (we can pay if necessary as there is a contingency fund still) I would love to hear!!

Sorry mate for all the hard graft and time u r putting into this.

Don't be silly, there is enough in the contingency to pay someone to make the bits we need and I have no issues making it either. Just hoping someone has access to the equipment to do it easily and quickly.

Water jet cutting machine :)

Darren.. do you have a plan or drawing of the plate you can send me. Can't promiss anything until I see someone on Sunday who has access to metal cutting and fabrication equipment, but it will speed things up if there is an acurate and detailed drawing available to show him.

If someone can sketch it I can draw it up in CAD fro a fabricator.

I have done a separate thread for this, it is VERY simple so have not done a plan.

I am after a 16 MEGABYTE to 64 MEGABYTE CF card if anyone has one lying around. This is just so I can save the settings for the camera on it and he can stash it away somewhere to restore them if he has a play and looses everything. It really doesn't need to be bigger than 16MB !!!!!

Thanks.

Yeah! I finally found a use for that one I had lying around for ages - I'll have a root, and try and find it...

If you don't find it, I'm fairly sure I've got one knocking around in my desk drawer.

Oh I can loose all settings?

I don't know how Julian is coping with the suspense on this. I can't wait to see it all set up and working.

the tension is building, I have telephoned the stroke unit I was on only as a precautionary measure. Making sure a bed was available just in case :-)

I'll drop all the books off on my next visit so Julian has something to read whilst waiting for the camera etc.

I think we are making real progress of the rest of it. I spoke to Mrs_C's sisters partner yesterday, whilst at the wedding, who has a very large quantity of threaded bar of just the right size. Plus there looks like real progress on the bracket too.

So hopefully some time this coming week I might just get to try and see if we can get it all setup for a dry run. I just need to source some plastic sleaving that can go over the threaded bar. I used to buy this years ago when making brackets for bikes but the shop has long since closed so will need to source some from somewhere else :)

Julian,

If I give you plenty of notice can you be in something else other than the chair on a particular day?
