Wow! I had a quick reminder yesterday what shooting in bright sunshine can do if you are trying to preview composition etc - affectionatley known as 'chimping'.

As I have 4 Weddings booked in the next few weeks, I would appreciate you peeps letting me know how you cope. What do you use if anything? If your answer is something, what? and where can I get one quickly?

Thanks Gillian

Any images to accompany answer will be even better.

Get a view finder cover so that the sun glare is not as bright.

What is the actually trouble as I don't really understand?!

I can't see the image as the light around the camera is so bright and yesterday I didn't even have a shady area or a coat to hide the camera in to check.

In extreme conditions where any shade is still too bright, put it in your camera bag almost closed - they'll simply think you're changing lenses or something rather than checking if you're doing it right !!!

Good luck

Pretend it's a film camera - and don't check :-)

isn't there a screen protecter/ sunshade on the market?

Just stand between the camera and the light - use your body to make the shade - have the brightness on the screen on max and have it set to view histogram – the exposure is the bit that is important – you can crop a loose shot and sharpen a soft one but an overexposed dress or a dark black suit means the shot needs to be done again – if it is that bright you should be using f8 anyway(to get best from lens) unless you want really small depth of field in which case take lots with different focal points, and pick the best.

Why don’t the camera makers make the screens matt – how hard can it be on a £1000 camera????

I know it may be a bit too hot for it for normal people (IE not me ) but can you lay your hands on a black or dark pashmina? Have it round your neck and than you can just pop it over your head and the camera to check quickly. That's what I've been doing for the last few days anyway

Good ideas Guys. I have been thinking and I might get myself a piece of Black fleece and use that. Ummm.... I will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestions.
