Trawling through youtube and listening to various artists I was wondering "what is your absolute favourite song" it can be anything from rock to opera but it has to be the one, I thought mine was Heros by Bowie but it isnt, the one that sticks in my head is Bat out of hell by Meatloaf as it was played at two of my best mates funerals and the song means quite a lot to me

for those who dont know it

That is a very difficult question which is going to require some serious thought

I'll have to get back to you...

Thats the reason I started this thread, meatloaf may be corny but it is the one I find so good that I think about my mates and what they would be doing today and all the other stuff.....you know what I mean

I do know what you mean - songs played at funerals will be forever associated with massive emotion and kind of transcend the cornyness / cheesyness / perceived quality of the actual music. Just the way it is and theres nothing wrong with that ;)

I find it weird when people mock other's musical taste anyway - as long as you like it who cares what kind of cred it has

Very well said music is there to listen to nothing else, I sometimes find myself listening to the Carpenters when working on photos as its relaxing:thumbs:

Just been listening to this

Another one that gets no praise but a bloody good song

It is a great song - I saw Staind play back up for Nickleback last year and they were pretty good. Only problem I have is all their songs are about Aaron Lewis' issues and I'm not sure they have moved on at all since Break the Cycle - it's just more of the same.

Ooh
Mine changes regularly. At the moment, I'm hooked on Journey - Don't Stop Believing. Is it iconic though? No.

For me, an all time favourite would have to be something by Meat Loaf. Maybe Two out of Three Aint Bad, or For Crying Out Loud. Bat Out of Hell would be a definite contender.

yeah break the cycle was good but its just the same old same old now so not a huge fan

Or maybe Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall - Part 2 (I think it's part 2)...from the helicopter bit :p

Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack or Little Fluffy Clouds by The Orb.

Never heard ot em but listened and ...........the piano at the begginning is just class and the song is very good I will listen out for them more

I think they are bringing out a new album next year - the band is made up of the lead singer of Slipknot and friends and they've been on hiatus for a while.

EDIT - you've got me thinking about this now and I'm going to have to throw another one into the mix -

Decoration Day by the Drive by Truckers:

Forgot to say - if you liked ZZYZX Road have a look on Youtube for Through Glass by Stone Sour as well - another favourite of mine.

A massive improvement on the original for me - he's got a beautiful voice

I wonder why they named their band Obadiah Parker

Its someting religious I think but the band have played the uk and went down very well, apparantly he is a backing singer for the lead which is a girl and just as good

Iconic - it's a big word that has soooo many meanings. So I'll answer your question as in what is my most absolute favourite song.

That would have to be Don't Stop Me Now - Queen.

It always makes me happy everytime I hear it

I wondered when the great Freddie would appear but not the song I thought but a true masterpiece

I normally sit on TP on a sat nite and flick through songs I like on youtube but tonight I am going to listen to your icons and ....well just listen without searching lol

Right this is my last one... but it has to make an appearance because it makes me cry EVERY TIME I listen to it. Seriously - I've had to stop listening to it in the car, it's dangerous!

Here Without You (acoustic) by 3 Doors Down:

I've been thinking and I still stick with Don't Stop me now as my Favourite all time song but my favourite song at the moment is something monty python (completely different)

Village Green Preservation Society - Kate Rusby, an amazing voice and she has some other fabulous songs (although a bit folky for some - not me I like that stuff)

Some strong songs here but I would like to share a story and a song with you all, Its about my dad who died because of a hospital blunder.

He was being treated for cancer and had been cured by chemo and radiotherapy to the extent that he was coming home the next day so I alone visited him whilst my mum who is also very ill stayed home with my sister getting the house ready, It was 7pm when I got to the hospital and my dad was just pointing into the corner of the room looking very dazed so I asked a nurse what was wrong, she said its nothing to worry about he has had a morphine overdose but he has had the antidote so will be fine once its worn off and he is in no discomfort, whilst I was away the student nurse that gave him the od returned and gave him another shot of antidote...............wrong due to him having a weakened heart....I returned to see him having fits and got a doctor to look at him straight away, at this point the curtains were drawn back and my dad was rushed into a single roon and all sorts of pipes and wires stuck in/on him and an ambulance called to get him from Cookridge to Jimmys fast.

The ambulance got there in 3 mins and we were on our way in 5mins but 1 mile away my dad suffered a massive cardiac arrest due to the second dose of antimorphine so the ambulance had to stop whilst the paramedic gave him the kiss of life and did cpr once it was apparant he was going the blue lights and sirens went on and we were at jimmys in about a minute, he was pronounced deceased on arrival but I held his hand all the way and told him we all loved him....this was playing on the radio on the way back from leeds so it really has to be my song ......sorry for the rant

First female singer and what an entrance:clap:

As iconic song for me has to be Last Resort by the Eagles.

But my favourite song, that is so hard I don't think I can do it
