A guy at work went to an IT show about 9 years ago and won a graphics card, he knew nothing about the innards of a PC so asked me if I wanted it for £50.

I bought it then found out it was a specialised CAD card so I sold it for £300 on one of the newsgroups, this was pre ebay or pre me hearing about it.

Not a massive bargain but one that I am extremely pleased with....

I went into the Henri Lloyd outlet shop in my home town and they had jacket in there marked down from £100 to £25 because of a mark on the back.

After being told by the assistant that the mark was tailors chalk I took the gamble and bought it.

15 mins with a sponge and warm water, the mark was gone and I was well chuffed. :)

Early days of QXL won a 3 night half board stay (with a bottle of wine each night too) for two at the Wellington in Boscastle for £99. At the time the 'a la carte' evening meal was £75 a head alone. Had a great 4 days in and around Boscastle with my wife

Best photographic bargain was a number of years ago on ebay, bought a 4 head Elinchrom outfit 3x 500s and a 1250 with all stands, umbrellas, softboxes, cables, case, snoot, barndoors, reflectors, backgrounds and more. I had to go to London to collect but I paid £300 for the lot. It was worth about £2500 at the time . Used it for a few years and then sold it all for £1000.

So how did I get it for that?

Well the seller had it listed under the wrong category and had spelt Elinchrom incorrectly. I was doing a search and in my haste also typed Elinchrom incorrectly and it brought up the auction. I bid a max of £1000 and won it a couple of days later for the start price of £300 as nobody else that might have been interested saw the auction.

Moral of this story, make sure you advertise in the correct category and make sure of your spelling before you hit the finalise button
