What's with these flash guns?

Hi all

whats these flash guns i see most of the paps with these days, small things almost mounted on the side of the cameras?

they just seem more compact than this block of flats mounted on the top of my 40d

any idea where i can buy them

I'm not too sure what you're on about.

Could be something like an external battery, or maybe diffusers of some sort..
 
are you not talk of flashes on brackets etc...

If its Canon they normally use one of these with a 580EX I/II

That really is taking profit margins too far.

I'm a huge fan of my Canon gear but there is no way in this life I'm parting with £129 for that!

Dustproof and waterproof? It's a bit of plastic coated metal of course it's dustproof and waterproof. :cuckoo:
 
He means flashguns mounted on brackets at the side of cameras.
Flashes fired directly above the lens created the harshest, most unflattering light possible. Moving it anywhere to either side is 100x better, and so flash brackets were invented. It allows the photographer to fire the flash at a more flattering angle without the necessity of mounting the flash off camera on a tripod/having to hold the flash seperately.

Go for the kaiser bracket..£14.00. OK you've got to buy the cable, but then I've got that anyway
 
The canon one is solid with the 580ex on it, it bolts to the side of the bracket as well as the bottom fixing

It is well made and isnt 'plastic coated' its just painted black.

Its a 1000x better than the one I bought from hong kong via ebay.


I got my SB-E2 second hand of ebay, cost me £75 and I thought that was steep till it turned up. I have used it for weddings and its great.
