What's with all the strange posts 2 days in a row?

Yes
It's a bit worrying one has 7 views, is it a virus?

It's just spamming but it's time it was dealt with properly rather than keep allowing these people to mess up the forum ... simple tweak to stop new 'members' signing up and then spamming by multiple posts.

Allow 1 post per day for first 30 days. Quick fix is to go to profile and hit ignore, instant f***you.

It's our yellow friends trying to sell fake University degrees.
They've been at it for months on here but they still get through. Must be big money in fake degrees. Still doesn't get you a decent job!

Would make joining in threads nigh on impossible if you post, someone replies then you can't reply for 24 hours.

Each time this happens, Marcel looks o tweak things but they'll always find new ways around it.

End of the day, it took me 10 seconds to clear them up. A lot quicker than having to approve each new member as suggested elsewhere.

Maybe the forum needs more people capable of clearing this type of crud up? :)

Very annoying to have pages of crud when you browse to the forum ... its there until someone with authority and 10 seconds arrives.

Flood controls on new members can help*, but it usually means the spammers change tactics and it slows down the clean-up. It's quicker to remove one spam account and the 50 posts they've hit the forum in one go than it is to delete 50 spam accounts that have made one post each. Likewise for members to tidy up their view of the forum by only having to Ignore one account rather than 50.

Unfortunately the truly effective controls remain manual and tiresome. Having Admin in multiple time zones generally helps with response times, but unless you're looking for something to moan about there hasn't been any major inconvenience caused by these attacks to date. It's been obvious that they're spam, it's easy to ignore them.

* more effective is preventing probationary accounts from including hyperlinks until certain milestone achievements have been made by the account (not just days served or posts made, the forum already has an appropriate mechanism in the points system). It protects anyone foolish enough to follow a spam link, removes some of the attractiveness of the forum as a target, and requires a specific and unique bot script just for this one forum.

And how long was that?
Long enough for me to log off and go elsewhere a few times and to annoy other members.
Look it isn't personal, I'm not getting at you ... it's annoying and not something I see on other forums I visit, surely it can be tweaked to favour members over non-members?

I'm sure Macel and others are well aware of what is happening and what can be done about it.It's not a massive inconvenience for a free forum and it could quite quickly reach a point where legitimate users are put off because of the limitations imposed to prevent spamming.

Now you tell me they are fake degrees, just paid 35p for one, guess i have lost that.

Is it really that much of a problem, l sometimes pop on before l go to work at 4.30 am and they are there, but l just ignore, don't
even report them as l realise the mods team will catch them when they arrive (y). Just look at the forums l want to, no big problem

I like them.

They make my posts look good.
