Yes
I recently shot at an equestrian event and decided to treat myself and hire a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR from Calumet - great lens BTW.

However when I started processing some shots for clients I kept coming across a green spot of light on some of the shots. I was using a D200 without flash and I can't work out what it is. None of my other lens' display this.

This is a crop of if

This is the original shot - you can just see it on the Front Nearside leg.

did you have a lens hood on?

It's possible that it's a bit of flare from the overhead lights.

This may sound odd.........but you dont think it was something they sprayed on the horse's leg do you? It seems a bit hairless round that area....may be some antisceptic or something?

Is it in any more pics of the same horse?

Never thought of that - I did have the hood on at the time - infact I was holding on to the damn thing for dear life as I had a £1200 deposit on the old Credit Card. Would I be better in that situation removing it?

Janice - I checked on some other images and they were clear so i think I might go with the lens flare. A little bit of PP will see that right.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Eeek... if that is caused by lens flare and you had the hood on, I bet your glad you only hired the lens and didnt buy it outright.

could just be some light coming thru the skylights, and making a prism effect, like a watch face reflection type thing, if you get me.

-gets coat-

Sure looks like lens flare.

That really annoys me about Calumet, thank god they don't run a car hire service.

I had almost identical Green blobs on some indoor shots taken a couple of years ago at a Wedding. They were on all of the shots taken in a certain direction at the reception. I will dig out the file later and let you see. I thought we were being watched - sound of x-files music playing by Aliens seeing as it was my very first wedding.

Bob, I'm almost certain it's flare, either from the overhead lights or skylights visible in the image, the hood won't protect from flare in this instance as the camera is pointing directly at them.

That's definitely flare, the two green spots are the same distance apart as the two lights on the wall.

There may be a danger of me remembering how to post an image in a thread. Phew at last I hear you say :bang:

I only wanted to share my Green Things with you. :naughty: I am sure Ven would approve - in fact, they may have something to do with him. Where were you on ..........

Definitely agree but why the colour difference between the lights and the ghosting?

 :suspect:

That's solved that then. Thanks Hacker. Ven, you are off the hook

Hope that helps Bob

Great stuff and thanks for the help. Now all I need to decide is do I go for the Nikon 70-200 2.8VR or the Sigma (non Vr version) and save £500 odd quid in the process. Arggghhhh.
